I have solved this problem by having the powered loco PUSH a rack of coaches. Not ideal, but it works OK for 2-4 coaches. (of course, they roll on when the loco stops 😀)

The container from my Lowmac has the words Furness Railway printed in faint gold. Were these containers sold in various liveries ?
-
Also try giving the track a thorough clean. Also the loco wheels. Then try again. This "nudge" question is a very common nuisance. It may possibly be overcome before taking more radical steps by using a more powerful controller such as H&M Duette which is good for older loco operation.

BASINGSTOKE 1958-67 (87ft x 25ft)

Wonderful pictures as usual Duke. Thankyou. Have you any thoughts about installing smoke units on any of your locos ? I know there are mixed opinions about these but a couple of steaming locos would look superb on your vast layout. BTW I often travelled on the Waterloo-Bournemouth route in the 70's but never had the experience of journeying in the comfort of the Pullman services, mainly because they were not very well publicised. (at least that is my excuse). My company would gladly have footed the bill I'm sure, as it was usually on the final lap of a tiring trip from overseas. So I missed out on something good. -
Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?
Jimbo1707820979 replied to The son of Triangman's topic in General Discussion
a Class 43 Inter City 125 loco and dummy in Executive mustard cloured livery. What a pity that Hornby do not seem to have made a coach in the same livery. The coach liveries available look out of place between the loco and dummy. If I were clever enough I would have a go at painting a matching coach myself ! 😛 -
Hello All. I've been trying hard - without much success - to find details and illustrations about these. I believe they are "Series 3" that are of most interest to me. You know, the orangey-brown ones (or grey ?) appearing in Paisley's gorgeous Triang layout on YouTube. How do they fit together, the various parts, radiuses etc. ? And in which literature do they appear ? I can usually find info. online about most things but these are defeating me so any information and indications as to where I should search would be gratefully received.

Good attitude, Jimy. Long may you continue to do. 😀

Welcome to the forum, Gibbo . In short, stick to gauge 00 for your future buys. Then no confusion at all.

Building an 00 Girder Bridge
Jimbo1707820979 replied to Jimbo1707820979's topic in General Discussion
Many thanks, Gents, for your advice and photos. My kit is similar to Rob's but not identical. No instructions but easy to assemble. I'm impressed by the accuracy of cutting. So I am pleased with the purchase. -
Hello All. I have just ordered a kit for a single-track curved arch bridge which appears to be of laser-cut MDF parts. Around the £12 mark. Presumably there are slots already cut into which the parts are fitted. OK, but can anyone please offer suggestions about assembly and avoiding any pitfalls ? Also advice on improving the look of the final item. Did such bridges carry warning lights or signs in the real world ? i have never built this kind of thing before so all advice welcomed. 😛

A spare blanking plug is also useful in case one of your decoders becomes defunct and you are content to run the loco on DC only.
-
A practical idea. I have a similar arrangement on my layout and it works well. But remember to keep your locos in separate groups if you fit decoders to some. And better have a warning sign on your DCC track to avoid running DC locos by mistake and burning out the motors. 😛

Old train set help #2, controller/track queries
Jimbo1707820979 replied to LouisLoco's topic in General Discussion
If you are thinking of buying a H&M Clipper you might be better getting a H&M Duette as that can control 2 tracks rather than 1. Price not much different and although old, these are very good units (and NOT made in China !) -
Sounds as though you lost your hat, Sarah. 😆

It is reported that when Diesels were first introduced on mainline services there were many instances of these locos being "rescued" by steam locos, much to the embarassment of Rail Management. I am wondering if this meant always detaching the diesel from its train or were there cases of the steam loco hauling the whole train including the failed diesel ? In any case, such history gives us modellers the chance to run steam and diesel locos coupled together if desired, without offending history. Maybe useful for those with only a small collection or in cases where back-up is needed.

Thanks for the video JJ. Superb. I was rather puzzled, when reading the subtitles, by the reference to "el nino blue". Then the penny dropped. El Nino became LNER. 😆 You get some real howlers on live TV also. Helps brighten the day. -
I agree with Andrew. Very, very bad news if it has been closed down. I for one would be willing to pay a few pounds per year to keep it open. Can you ask members if they are of the same mind and if so -- which I expect -- can you approach the source to find out if a continuance is posible ?

Lawrence of Arabia - I am making a model of his cottage at Clouds Hill, Dorset. A docu described this as "ugly" but I think quirky more apt 😛

Securing track for layout stored against wall
Jimbo1707820979 replied to Split09's topic in General Discussion
The "pins" versus "no pins" sounds a bit like DC versus DCC ! Could go on forever. Good fun, though. 😆 -
Welcome to the forum, Roger. I bought a "Gadwall" for my son which is similar to the "Mallard". It runs very well on 3rd Radius, which I suggest you use. No derailments. Possibly also on 2nd Radius but have not tried it.

Many thanks for the clarification. Have you an idea where the later catalogues could be viewed ?
-
Thanks for your link, RT. Very useful. Has anyone else anything to add, please ?
-
Through the kind offices of Sarah I have access to the Tri-ang catalogues from 1965 to 1966 on my desktop. Are there any other years available ? Would be much appreciated.

Should we then refer to it as "Hen of the North" or "Rooster of the North" ? This is all getting a bit silly. (Or maybe the Poutry Protection and Equalisation Governance" will then complain ? - but politely and no short Anglo-Saxon words). I must not buy an additional Lima Crab ! 😛 🤐
