  1. I have a Tornado also and have found it very reliable.
  2. Hi David. I think an H&M controller such as the "Duette" would be a good choice for you. Old and used, only, so get it checked. I use one regularly, sometimes 3 locos on the same line (and you have connections for TWO lines). Have a look on eBay but be careful about all the details listed.
  3. runnerSome of us modellers have hard-to- reach places on their layouts. As I am one of them I am thinking perhaps a "grabber/reacher" such as used by elderly people might be handy to retrieve derailed locos or wagons. The question is "Are the jaws wide enough and strong enough ?" Could anyone please advise ? A grabber would also be handy for my aging back !!
  4. This was also my first 00 purchase in a new DCC fitted set. Never a very strong runner. So maybe this is typical of this model ?
  5. I have the impression that the new Forum is not as popular as the former one. Am I right ? And certainly disappointed that even very short videos cannot be posted.
  6. Sorry Bighandz, I was not aware of your sight problem. If you still wish to use the Hornby piers, maybe you could get a friend to make some intermediate supports for you to prevent "sagging". Best wishes, Jimbo
  7. Or make your own piers to suit the incline you want. Then you can space them more closely to avoid sagging track, which is horrible to view and causes problems. I have done this on a long incline and can run quite heavy locos successfully such as the Tri-ang Road Switcher plus wagons.
  8. Hi Jimy. Have you thought of sleeping UNDER your layout ? (don't wake up suddenly in the night and raise your head !).
  9. Good luck Jimy. I have successfully used one bedroom as dual purpose. It is nice to wake up with trains all around ! So press on ....
  10. Yes, a 3-D printed re-railer would be ideal. I had thought of attempting something in wood but it really needs something slimmer with suitable strength. A bit of a mind-boggler.
  11. My Peco straight re-railer has been used a lot , especially for multi-wheeled locos. Very useful. But I wonder if anyone has found, or made a curved re-railer ? (maybe Radius 3 or 4). The drawback with the straight one is that it needs a section of straight track - not always available !
  12. I built a Superquick footbridge to span two tracks and am quite pleased with the result, especially after putting in LED lighting. A drawback was the limited head clearance, which required some fettling. Here it is on my layout under construction.
  13. I keep all my boxes, stored end-wise on top of a built-in wardrobe, mainly because some day I will not be here and my son may wish to sell one, two or all the locos. Trouble is they are so high now and my eye-sight getting worse, that I have to use a camcorder's zoom to read the labels!
  14. Hello Eileen. If you have not completed your buys of track I suggest you consider Hornby semi-flexible as I found this easier to work with. When bent it stays in its place, unlike flexible.
  15. An interesting item. Are these small gadgets easy to assemble ? Any cutting, soldering or other precision work needed ? Advice appreciated. One problem I find with distant points is knowing which way they are set. (without binoculars !) I am thinking of installing some LED indicating lights. But these levers may be an easier option.
  16. I bought a Tri-ang Victorian suspension bridge with a few little bits missing. Now struggling to assemble it but the main problem it is so BIG. So nowhere really on my current layout to put it. Maybe over my bed headboard !?
  17. A country maybe worth considering is Vietnam. A friend has imported some model speedboats and the quality is superb and the prices reasonable. Another friend has imported a back bumper in stainless steel for a Mercedes 350 SL at £500 f.o.b. The cost of supplying an original was quoted at £2000 including new chrome. He is delighted with the bumper from Vietnam. I wonder if Hornby have considered Vietnam ?
  18. I like this model too. Wish I could afford the streamlined version.
