Hello All It has been a great pleasure for me to read the advice and comments of so many of you knowledgeable and kind members over the past few years. But now, having passed the 90 mark and unable to get around my 2 layouts, I must thank you all and say goodbye. I am selling all my beloved stuff on Ebay and hope it finds good homes. Kindest wishes to all. Jimbo from Bournemouth.

Hornby Select problem [when using DCC Address 02].

Do Hornby still upgrade the firmware on the Select free of charge ? Or if there is a charge, how much is it ? -
Alternatively, JJ, you could use a video editing program to reverse the direction of the film. I have done this and it is quite effective.

Hello Anglia998 Did the replies solve your problem? Obviously, you must have the photo already on your hard drive and the app will search it out. Do the dialogue first. This is a little beauty I got at a show last week for only £20 - runs very well.

Hornby did not bother to put on sub-titles for those whose hearing is diminished or non-existent. A mindless omission. So I will not be bothered to watch this programme either. Poor show.rage

Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?
Jimbo1707820979 replied to The son of Triangman's topic in General Discussion
On eBay the bids for LMR locos seem to be going through the roof. Luckily I have just bought "Maj-Gen. Frank R. Ross" and "Maj.-Gen. McMullen" but I feel sorry for anyone now entering the market. I have a suspicion some (concealed) bidders may be from the U.S. as the seller is quoting postage across the drink. I recall the the "Doughboys" from my earliest Hornby days. -
Yes, the 2 holes are a nuisance. Maybe best to file them level and fill with black tack or insert flag(s). @jj the positioning not settled yet and may need some other items removed as the bridge is large. Still scratching head weary

I thought the tops of the towers looked a bit unfinished/uninspiring so added the Oxford vehicles display plinths. Just an idea-- and easily removed. What do you think ?

Well explained, Jimy. And the photos are great. Thankyou. Best wishes, Jimbo.

Al, was that lacquer Bits4reasons E-tech ? I could not find it using your ref.

Andrew, you have just reason to complain. As I see it you have several hundreds of pounds-worth of "paperweights" there. How have you managed to get so many motors to fail ? So far I have had only a couple of failures among over a hundred locos and that was through chancing analog locos on a DCC line in my early days. To make matters worse, my wife threw them away !

As model trains have a fairly high value-to- weight ratio, I am wondering if air freight dispatch will become workable. Also would result in faster turnover of goods. Don't ask me to do the arithmetic, please !

Ocean freight rates for containers have increased enormously since the Evergreen crisis in Suez. Also scarcity of empty containers. So I am afraid import costs reflecting this. Maybe a small encouragement to manufacture closer to home.

Pulling power of a loco, how to tell?
Jimbo1707820979 replied to JS84Z's topic in General Discussion
On YouTube young Sam has sometimes used a kind of "traction effort" meter to check pulling power. Does anyone know what the gadget is ? Something with no relation to model trains come to mind. Like a postal scale with a hook ? -
Mike, how many passes of your circuit did you make ? Ball-park figure OK. Regards, Jimbo.

Chris, have you heard from The Duke since June ? Many members missing his posts, without a doubt. -

@threelink Well done for saving a lot of locos and wagons from the rubbish bin. Also a great exercise in recycling. -

Ideas how to catalogue a collection.
Jimbo1707820979 replied to new lad on block's topic in General Discussion
Hello New Lad. I use both my PC and "hard copy" ring -binders to catalogue my collection. The latter for fear of PC failure (although backed up). I find the hard copy more pleasurable to look through as I have printed photos and recorded details of the locos in real life, largely gathered from Wikileaks and magazine articles. But each man to his own choice. -
Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?
Jimbo1707820979 replied to The son of Triangman's topic in General Discussion
Won on eBay a very tidy and well-running ex-Caledonian Single in presentation case. Amazing that Hornby could produce this for a modest price . A companion for my blue-liveried version. Though having them both on the track at once would be an obvious mistake. -
Passenger or freight loco..... how to tell?
Jimbo1707820979 replied to JS84Z's topic in General Discussion
The classifications are interesting but is there a table showing the tractive power figures needed for each ? Or something similar. -
Hello All. I recently bought a Hornby Rolling Road and am wondering if there is a simple way to measure the power consumption of a loco by connecting something and how that could be done. I would be grateful for some advice please.
