  1. Thanks for this. It's helpful to those of us who have the Airfix Spitfires wating in the wings. Though I had to go to another manufacturer for a VB variant.
  2. If you read books about the histor of Airfix, you'll learn that the company employed artists, hence some stunning pictures that have burnt their image into memory for ever. Difficlt to pick out favourite. The present computer generated images are a bit souless. They will not be displayed on my walls as wa the fashion in the 70s. I expect someone will create a site with all the boxart easy to access to distract us from modelling some time in the future! Roy Crosses art is readily accessible: http://speedreaders.info/192-celebration_of_flight_by_roy_cross/
  3. I think some confusion is setting in here, so best if I provide a link to scalmates that has the time-line and this is an example of the Airfix Bf 109g-6 the second Airfix kit I had that refused to even glide. Oh happy memories https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-86-me-bf-109g-6--130419 As for old versus new Airfix, as long as Airfix continue with locating pins and notches so that bits cannot be stuck on incorrectly, then it's not untill you get into the relms of accuracy do you need to worry.
  4. Hi all Looking at the sprue shots on the Hannants website. Please can someone confirm the existance of the underwing rocket launches. I can see the 20mm cannons attach underneath as an option, but would like to know about rockets. Incidentally does anyone know if the 1960s Airfix BF 109 G-6 "yellow 3" was an actual a/c or just a composite?
  5. Thanks Chris. The warmest/thickest clothed aircrew appear to be the Japanese! As for the Revell set, neither my LMS nor online stores have it in stock. Kent's War & Peace festival?
  6. The frustration is that we know Airfix can do better. For example the FGR 3 Harrier has the nose to build the FGR 1 as well. The addition/omission of parts to allow mutiple variants I find appealing. I really want to support Airfix and in particular a Skyhawk in Israeli markings. So I feel sad when I have to go elsewhere and descover I'm not well catered for.
  7. A01305V Morris "Quad" conversion to 15cwt Box-bodied Morris Commercial Hi all, The price ticket on my polly-bagged kit instructions is 17p! Please has anyone plans for the GS truck, or attempted it and would like to pop pics of it up or provide a link
  8. Hi all Does anyone know of accurate Crew figues for W.W.2 Swordfish? I assume two crew manned the Swordfish in attacks on the Bismark.. Might I be able to purchase them at War and Peace Fesitval in Kent in July?
  9. Thanks for sharing your experience of building the Moth. Useful for when I find out what FTS finish looked like and I'll begin. I may well use a knife tip in a candle flame for tricky parts.
  10. I think Modelstrip might have gone out of production. I cannot find it. Please might someone suggest a product superior to oven cleaner which works some of the time?
  11. Question: Does the Kittyhawk contain locating pins and wing tabs? Glad Airfix insist on these Oh and pilots too!
  12. Choosing to depict Swordfish attack on Bismark to avoid this dilema As for rigging, kind words to local BT engineer working on box provided scrap wire containing thin strands.
  13. One of my favourite books to read is 'Catalina over Arctic Oceans' by John French. Probably of limited help when it comes to camouflage and markings, but an inspiration nevertheless. Several of us who have the Airfix Catalina as roof insulation will follow this with interest. Though a new tool Catalina in RAF maritime squadron livery will be most welcome. Referene material: http://silverhawkauthor.com/canadian-warplanes-3-the-second-world-war-and-postwar-boeing-canada-pb2b1-catalina-and-canadian-vickers-pbv1a-canso-a-_723.html
  14. Thanks! I won't be having to cut the wingtips off my Frog Mitchell in order to replace them ....phew!! 😀 Indeed thank you for the update. I've thanked Brian Derbyshire for his guidance.
  15. I watch this with interest because I too am trying to produce an accurate B-25C only a 320 Dutch squadron machine. So I too will have the dilemas that you have mentioned: bombsight, bombs, cowling, not to mention which Humbrol paints to purchase. Please may I trouble you for a picture of the wingtips taken from front? They have a little dihedral. Good luck!
  16. For those of you novices Yellow needs a white undercoat And if you use masking tape, it needs to be pulled back on itself to remove it cleanly Hope these tips help. Please don't feel insulted if you know this already
  17. Airfix produced a series of books: Guide number 11 was titled RAF camouflage of World War 2. ISBN 0 85059 215 1. I have 1975 edition. On page 63 is a picture of Liberator III LV337 in olive drab and neutral grey There are no identification codes, so quite easy to replicate.
  18. Look forward to seeing this in 1/72 scale along with a BoB era fire tender
  19. I'm delighted a Mig-17 is in the pipe line. Thought at that price and to compete with Eastern European kits, Might Airfix have a choice of noses for a PF varient and, or underwing rockets for an Egyptian one?
  20. Peter Townsend's Hurricane please Airfix. Made widely available please.
  21. This might jog someone's memory: In one of the lat 70s Airfix Annuals, Alan Hall had an article about British Army landrover colours. I'm having problems locating my copy but if I do, I'll report back
  22. Thank you kind folk for your replies. My LMS does not stock A02010. It seems Airfix needs to run a batch off before I get a chance of obtaining one.
  23. The Airfix Spitfire is absolutly gorgeous. Only I wish to finish it as an early Battle of Britain Mk1. What do I have to do to it to keep it accurate? Thanks in anticipation. Cheers Tweezers
