  1. Hi, and thanks for all your information and suggestions. I have changed CV 150 to a value of 1, but there is no difference. Do I now have to start playing around with CV 153 and 154 as suggested earlier? Thanks in advance.
  2. ColinB - thanks, unfortunately I work shifts so won't be able to do this until tomorrow morning, but I will certainly do as you advise.
  3. Hi guys, the sound decoder is a Hornby TTS Digital Sound Decoder, R8102, Class 37 if that's any help? I have fitted a 'can' motor as a kit from the guys at Strathpeffer. The standard Hornby decoder and the R8102 both operate the cab lights and the directional lights perfectly, the sounds on the R8102 work perfectly. The standard decoder works perfectly at slow speed and setting off, it's just jerky at slow speed and setting off with the R8102 fitted. I have a Hornby Elite in the attic, but I am currently in the workshop using a Hornby Select. I hope this can shed a little more light on the subject.
  4. Hi, I have a class 37 which I have converted to DCC. I have put a standard Hornby decoder in, and it works perfectly. I have now put a sound decoder in, which works fine, apart from it being 'jerky' while setting off and at low speeds. I put the standard decoder back in and it was fine, but when I put the sound decoder in, it's still 'jerky' I have set the acceleration and deceleration to zero on both decoders with my Hornby Select. Any advice please? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for the help, there must have been a short somewhere - maybe the green wire to a rail? Anyway, it's sorted now. I have put directional lights in now, and am waiting for my sound decoder to arrive.
  6. It's a Hornby Select, it's measuring 15.5 vac across the rails. I'm now getting a constant 26vdc across the blue wire and the green wire. There is no smell of smoke, and yes, I am using a socket. I have tried three different decoders, all giving the same results.
  7. Hi, I have converted several loco's to DCC but I'm stumped with my latest venture. I couldn't get any LEDs to work, and when I touched the 1Kohm resistor, it was red hot. I measured the voltage and it was 42vdc! I left it for an hour or so and checked the voltage again, this time it was 26vdc. Is my standard Hornby decoder beyond repair? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi, Going Spare. It's R359, Number 37071 It has a Ringfield motor fitted. At the moment, it's just on DC.
  9. Hi, I'm hoping for some help please. I have a Hornby class 37, it is ages old. I am going to spruce it up with DCC, lights, sounds, extra pickups, etc. I've started with the wheels, they are almost a bronze colour. I have tried IPA, fine sandpaper and a fibre pen, but to no avail, if anything, they are worse. Two questions please - 1 - Am I just as well buying new wheels? 2 - Could you please explain what these insulated wheels are? As in, if I put the wheels on one way on one bogey, then put the wheels in the other way around on the other bogey, would it be possible to get a 'take off' from, say all six axels? Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi, I have both a Hornby class 37, and a Lima class 55 Alycidon. I have converted Alycidon to DCC and I am yet to convert the class 37. I have been looking at tts sounds decoders on ebay. There is an R8102 which I think will be OK in the class 37 for around £38. However, I have looked at a class 55 sound decoder and it is over £110 with ECS! Can I assume that I can put the R8102 in both units? Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi, as the title probably suggests, my question is this - does the Hornby Railroad Flying Scotsman R3284tts share the same service sheet as the Hornby Railroad Mallard R3395tts? And if do, what is the service sheet number? Thanks in advance.
  12. OK, is there a close equivalent? Just wanting to get a couple of service sheets for them for my railway folders.
  13. Mixed Freight Digital Train Set Hi, I have a Hornby Mixed Freight Digital Train Set, Item code: R1126 It has a Jinty and a class 08 - do these two loco's have 'R' numbers as individual units? Thanks in advance.
  14. OK. First of all, I'd like to thank you guys for your continued support within our hobby. My next question is this - I have now updated/upgraded my Hornby Elite to V1.44 from V1.3 on my laptop. And before you ask, yes it is V.1.44 (not V1.45) - I went onto the Hornby website, and that was the link I was given. Rather that download the whole instruction manual, at 37 pages, is there an option to just download the updated parts of the manual? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hi, I have two Intercity 125s with their two respective dummy cars. I have converted them to DCC (lights, sounds, can motor, etc), and I am now making an itinerary/list of all my loco's. The class 43s are from around the 1980s. My question is - What is the 'R' number for them? Thanks in advance.
  16. Hi guys - I have searched 'Stay alive' and found various capacitor sizes/diodes/resistors, which is really useful. I also understand the uses of the capacitor. My question is - If a stay alive is fitted, when you stop the loco, will the loco 'run on' until the cap is discharged? Thanks in advance.
  17. Well gentlemen, thanks for all your information. Today I have spent an hour or so with my laptop and Elite (connected with an old printer cable) and updated the Elite from 1.3 to 1.44 Now all I have to do is download the new instruction manual. Thanks again.
  18. Just had a quick look at the Elite, and it's a 1.3 version. I bought it second hand off eBay. Apparently I need to connect it to my laptop, but there wasn't a lead in the box. What lead will I need to connect to the laptop? Thanks in advance.
  19. Hi, continuing the Hornby HST 125 conversion to DCC and 'Can' installation - all is well so far, with the Hornby sound decoders now installed. I have set up the motor and dummy cars with the Hornby Select in the workshop. So far, so good. When I take the units up into the loft and put them on the layout, which is powered by the Hornby Elite, the Elite is only giving me 0-12 functions. I had set up F25 for cab lights on the Select. The Elite is a new addition, I'm thinking that it's a setting that I have overlooked? Thanks in advance.
  20. Going Spare - thanks for the info. I'm afraid I have made a mistake. It is a Lima Alycidon. Are they the same fit? Thanks in advance
  21. Hi, while we're on the subject of traction tyres, could anyone please help me with a part number for traction tyres for a (around 1980s) Hornby intercity 125 class 43? And also for an equally old Hornby class 55 Alycidon. Thank you very much. Sorry to have hijacked your original post.
  22. Hi, I've acquired a Hornby class 55 Alycidon on DC. I have already converted it to DCC. I have drilled out holes for the head/tail lights and have some LEDs with three legs (a common, and a leg each for white and red). Do I need a resistor for each LED, or will one resistor from the blue wire suffice? I going to have three LEDs at each end, two for headlights and one for a red light. Thanks in advance.
  23. True - With my daughter going to university (yesterday), things are a little tight concerning cash. Just the Elite and the Select controllers right now.
  24. Yes, that's the guy who I bought them from. I bought the 6v version because it is the one that fits my Ringfield motor, the 12v was a little different. And yes, it's the CD/DVD motor.
  25. OK, so I've decided to upgrade both of my Hornby HST power cars to these 'can' motor things. The guy who is selling them reckons they are six volt units, and prototypically won't be able to run very well unless I change CVs 5 and 6. He reckons the "Hornby R8249 decoder is probably the least suitable decoder for these kits. Because they don't have CV5/CV6" Do Hornby sell an up-to-date version of their decoder which could resolve the issue? Thanks in advance.
