  1. Hi Nikki, I had exactly the same idea as you. Software or an app where you can enter all your track pieces and it would then generate all the possible layouts and highlight any pieces that you'd still need. I have a program called 'AnyRail' that has a Slot Car design section and supports Scalextric track. I mainly use it for model rail design, but the slot car design element works great and is super easy to use. Kev.
  2. Hi Andy, I have found the best track layout software. AnyRail https://www.anyrail.com/en I use it all the time for my model rail layouts. I'd completely forgotten it had the slot car track library and support. It works brilliantly. Kev.
  3. Thanks Andy, Yes, that makes sense. I was getting confused with my R2 & R3. It must be the R1 I'm needing. Kev.
  4. Hi guys, I want to add some tighter curves to my layout. Will Scalextric Sport C8206/SuperSlot S8206 R2 Curves work with my ARC PRO 24h Le Man's Digital Set ? Thanks in advance, Kev.
  5. On recommendations from this forum, I went ahead and purchased a licence for 'Ultimate Racer'. I'm still waiting for my unlock code. Lodged a complaint with pay pal. The software is complete s**t anyway. What was I thinking ? Beware. Kev.
  6. Thanks Andy, I'll give Ultimate Racer another go. I find it hard to setup the initial layout and dimensions. Kev.
  7. Hi all, I have 2 x 6x4ft boards that I plan to place to each other to form an L shape, making them 10ft on the longest run, 6ft the shorter end of the L shape if I'm making sense. Can anyone suggest some layout ideas for such a setup please ? I'm hopeless working out track layouts. Cheers Kev.
  8. Formula 560 Canopy Glue by Pacer might be your best option. It dries totally transparent and is mainly used by plastic kit builders to affix cockpit windows etc without fogging or other mess. Kev.
  9. So far, the only one I've bought that is close to HO scale is a Matchbox - Mazda Miata MX5. Now that is a superb little diecast model. Doesn't really fit in with my 1960s-70s UK theme though !
  10. Thanks guys, I have a selection of Oxford Diecast. Cracking models, but hard on the wallet. I thought Matchbox might be a cheaper way round. But scale is all over the shop.
  11. I've been buying a few randomly selected Matchbox cars to liven up my layout. Some appear to be pretty close to scale, whilst others look a tad too big. Do Matchbox follow any scale guidelines or are they a lucky dip regards consistency. Kev.
  12. Thanks Potterton, That looks great. Nice work. I'll have a look at it. Cheers, Kev.
  13. @81F, I'll let you know how that goes. Hope it isn't too fiddly.
  14. Fantastic Mike, So inspiring, great work. Cheers Kev.
  15. I remember when I bought my first Dremel, my neighbour laughed at it and asked if I was going to take up dentistry. He ran out and bought one when he saw what I was able to do with it.grinning
  16. My router is mounted in a dedicated router table (Triton). I've never used it handheld ! Gulp !!! hah hah.
  17. Hi Chris, I actually have a router. I thought about it but not keen on damaging surrounding scenery already in place. I might have another look at using it (carefully). I have a jigsaw too. That might be the go. I hadn't thought of doing that. Some great advice. Thanks. Kev.
  18. Thanks for the great ideas so far guys. I have searched the usual places, you tube, google etc but I find I get better info and answers from the experts here. I'm on my way with some great ideas already. Thanks Gricer & Bud. Kev.
  19. I want to create a large lake in the centre of my layout. My layout is on ply so I don't have the luxury or means of carving out material for the 'water' to lay in. What methods have people here used to create water features please. I need some tips, methods & ideas. Woodland Scenics Water looks good, but expensive. Kev.
  20. I own 2 Dremel tools. The first I bought in 2001. A corded model. A year or two ago I bought a cordless model. They are invaluable and so versatile. Buy the mini 'chuck' if you can. The best accessory. Lets you fit and use so many drill bits, cut off wheels, sanding bits etc.
  21. I think that clickity clack sound adds more realism to a model rail layout than all the new fangled sound decoders etc put together. Love it : )
  22. This Night Mail train set turned up today. This is the first (and probably only) Hornby Train Set I will ever purchase, but I have to give it 10/10 for value for money. The loco and carriages are a little cheesy, but for what you get, the new Hornby analogue controller, some track, a point, buffer stop. Not bad. It even includes a Trakmat. I shall have fun mucking around with the mailbag feature. This would be a great starter set for a newbie. Bravo Hornby.
  23. Keep it sealed. I couldn't bring myself to open it. A slice of history there.
  24. Oh, thanks for that pic Rob. I enjoy looking at the old ads and brochures. I bet the lead mail bags would go down well with the health & safety brigade of today eh ? grinning
