Can't seem to find a topic on this!

Well, what is everbodies thoughts on the new cars?

For me, I like the new liveries for the Rover SD1 and the Ford Capri. At last, a non-kit Jaguar Mk 1 too. Especially like the 1978/79 F1 cars - it's going to cost me a small fortune this year! Must admit, I have also pre-ordered FAB 1 too. Wish I could find a reason to order the Landrover - looks fabulous!

But - one HUGE complaint. Where, oh where, Scalextric, is the TRIUMPH TR7 ??? I don't care if it's in Sprint or V8 guise!

Hi Andy,

Definitely a MkIV/1500. Have had 5 Spitfires in my lifetime and loved every one of them. Can't get out of them too easily any more! Just stick with my Stag and (funnily enough) my TR7V8 now. I do have the old Scalextric model of the TR - upgraded with new motor/chassis and tyres. They do go rather well!

I also have the Le Mans Spit resin kit and am now assembling it. Bit tight for chipping space, but I'll get there.

Love me Stag!

A guy at college actually had one. People were always surprised it was a V8.

I really like the TR7. Much better than its reputation.

I can highly recommend John Clancy`s DVDs on the subjects. triumphdvd, com or triumphdvd.co.uk I think . There is one about the Stag called "Michelotti`s Masterpiece" A bit old school but there are some shots and interviews that you really cannot get any where else.

There is a 1/18 scale Spitfire that is readily available. I have often thought of casting parts from it and then using chemicals to shrink the mould to 1/24 or 1/32 scale... I don`t have the time to do it plus I am sure it would stink and I would have many, many, many failures....

Hi Andy,

Slightly off topic, but I sent the link to the Spit IV to a chap I know who can print files and unfortunately, he can find 'no stl or object files' to enable him to print the car. I haven't a clue as to what that means!

Cheers

Chas

Some great cars, and pre-orders have gone in. However, the way things are at the moment, I've no idea when they will arrive.

A great as the Mk 1 looks, I would like a Mk II Jag, one that actually raced in Saloon cars.

The BTCC and Brit GT cars are ruining my marriage - she cannot understand how I need to have them. Getting them delivered to work and sneaking them in the house seems to work though.

I think Scalextric may have blown it with the Landrover. A little bit extra effort and they could have tapped into the lucrative "off-road" market. If they had done it with a drop arm guide and suspension ........ I suppose a few will be bought and aftermarket chassis fitted. An opportunity missed.

I realise that costs are rising all round but Scalextric cars, at £53.99, are priced so that a post free Slot.it car, with the much superior quality parts, costs about the same. Various claims about the different types of buyer are just excuses. There is a large market for quality slot cars from those who race as well as "play" and Scalextric continue to miss that boat.

Still, some great cars for 2023.

You have hit the nail on the head. Scalextric miss so many opportunities like with the Landrover or to bring any serious detailed model or performance to their range. I do want to get a few of the cars from the 2023 range but due to a number of recent bad releases I have decided to hold off until someone reviews them and I can ve confident in buying.

The price point is way too high for the cars, a lot of clubs run Scalextric classes as they are a cheaper entry point compared to hobby cars. You can now buy a slot.it white kit for less than a scalextric car and it requires no tunning and just some paint.

Policar is only a few pounds more and runs non magnet and is a high detail model superior to Scalextric.

I think they are losing out on a lot of money. I don't think they should compete with hobby cars but they need a few out to capture these markets. I have bought 8-9 new cars in the last year and only one of those is a Scalextric car. I like high detail and good performance and whilst Scalextric have really stepped up in detail they lack any performance.

Other brands understand the hobby side better and that is where a lot of the money is. Scenery, very high detail and quality models.

Scalextric do have a good line up for 2023 but unless you just want it for the shelf, I am not sure they will fully capture the ever growing market, slot cars have exploded in recent years. Club racing numbers are at a record high and it is looking very healthy overall.

Couldn't agree more. The 2023 range looks just about the best ever. Great to see some of the old Scalextric models such as the F1, Capri's, Escorts and SD1's, now upgraded from the originals to high detail cars. The Countach, Esprit and FAB1 are very welcome additions.

Re the Triumphs, great call. Would be fantastic to see our premier slot car producer bring some more British classics back to life.

for me the Dodge Monaco "Chicago Police" is the best release 2023 because my favourites are old US Cars and especially Police-Cars.

BUT I´m not happy with the troubles the flashlights have - they do not work correctly, if they work at all.

I don´t know if it´s a problem with the LEDs or the circuit board

One for 2024 to go with the 1982-93 IROC Camaro/Pontiac Transam the Fox bodied Mustang from 1979-93 in both original and SVO form as it would appeal to both the US and UK/Europe/Australia as the 1979-93 bodied Mustang was used for Group A touring car racing in the 1980s as a pre Sierra option as a Ford based stop gap along with the Sierra XR4i with a exclusive to the US 4 cyl Turbocharged engine as the XR4Ti and later in the DTM from 1990-93
