Espacerails
HelloCan you confirm for me that other Dcc central units on the market accept the HL 7040 dongle such as the Esu Ecos the Z 21 Roco or even a Lenz central unit with the Dcc XpressnetTHanksEric
LTSR_NSE
Hornby are making the HM7040 for use with Select & Elite controllers. The dongle uses the XpressNet interface to communicate with the controllers - so it will physically connect to any controller with an RJ12 socket. However as different manufacturers have implemented their own variations in the XpressNet communication protocols & firmware they each use - nobody can guarantee what other controllers the dongle will be compatible with.I’m sure that in time a list of compatible controllers will be compiled, however whether that will be a priority for Hornby, or simply a community lead project - only the future knows. Fishmanoz
Dcc central units - what you mean of course are DCC controllers.

Fishmanoz
Only to agree with LT that’s it’s most unlikely the dongle will work with non-Hornby controllers.
Philip-1200459
Actually it works fine with my Roco Z21 DCC controller. See my post.
Pendragon Sailing
It doesn’t work with Digitrax’s XPRESSNET interface, so no joy there.
LTSR_NSE
@Pendragon Sailing as you correctly identified in your other post - the Digitrax doesn’t actually possess an XpressNet interface. The socket is merely an RJ12 (a common telecommunication socket that has many uses) however both XpressNet & LocoNet are completely different software protocols - therefore not at all unexpected that dongle doesn’t work. LTSR_NSE
Upon re-reading, my last post sounds much harsher than I intended, but I cannot edit it! 🙁 I would have changed it to say: - therefore unfortunate, but not altogether unexpected.
HST Mainline
ESU ECoS does not have an XpressNet interface. So that will not work. Digitrax will not work, they also do not use XpressNet. XpressNet is a Lenz invention. If implemented correctly and to the specification, any controller using XpressNet should work. But as others have mentioned, there is no guarantee if it is not a Hornby controller. Both Lenz LZx, Lenz LZVx, Roco Z21, and of course, Hornby Elite and Hornby Select have XpressNet interfaces. So any of these should be a valid option if someone want to test it.
96RAF
There are others with Xpressnet via a DIN socket so if an adapter could be found, maybe they would work, firmware revision state dependant I suppose. Care should be taken before plugging things into sockets just because they apparently match, else one or both device could be damaged. Always cross check spec sheets where available and protocols.
