Airfix - What's your Latest Acquisition?

Recommended Posts

My lastest acquisitions. The Ju87 was acquired for the Italian decals and will be built soon to compliment my current Sea Gladiator build. Aftermarket sets and Eduard PE should all be used soon too!

Just a few aquired recently:

FW 200C Revell 1/72

Messerschmitt Bf109G-2 Trop AZ

Hasegawa B-24 Liberator

I am also reluctantly reducing my stash by about 20 models (all doubles/trebles) via  FleaBay

I have worked out that if I carry on with my current modelling of about 12-20 models per year, I currently have a stash of around 30 years worth of building (not certain I'll still be around or able to model by then.....) Hopefully, my output will increase when I retire (in the next 4-5 years) :)

Hi Grumps 123

Welcome to the club You'd be surprised at how many of us old toppies have stashes that we'll never finish, but still buy more. with the excuse that we've been waiting for years for a particular model to be released.

I recently had get rid of a large amount of my stash including some old Dragon kits of the Arado jets, and a load of old Airfix, Lindberg, Frog, LS, and Heller kits. One shop did manage to sell some, and I got a nice unexpected bonus from them. Which was promptly spent on some more kits that had finally arrived after I'd ordered them the previous year. Well, I couldn't just diss-own them could I?

Just ensure your surviving relatives know what to do with your unmade stash, like contacting your local model shop, or modelling club as selling on line might be a bit more trouble than they'd be willing to go through, as I've found, non-modelling relatives generally look on our hobby with a bit of a jaundiced eye.

Remember you can never have enough kit or glue. Remind them you could be drinking.

Remember we do this for fun.                            John the Pom

Currently building ... Revell 1/12 scale Ferrari 126C2 (the former Protar kit), upgraded wiring, hoses, radiators and pipe unions. 3rd time that I have built it.

Arrived today Ebbro 1/12 scale Matra Ms11 (The Tamiya kit with photo etch, seatbelt harness and a few other injection moulded extras). A crude, yet in its day leading edge, very complex kit that builds well and looks great with upgraded braided hoses and aftermarket pipe unions. This will be the second that I have built.

Award for best kit that I have built this year.. Italeri 1/12 scale Alfa Romeo 8C 'Nuvolari' car. A brand new tooling and brilliant, pretty much straight out of the box.

As for Airfix.. please update the 1/12 Bentley. It has the makings of an awesome kit, but simply needs too much work. Metal mesh Headlamp and windscreen grills would be a start.. and a smooth fuel tank.

Hi John,

You're absolutely right, you can never have too many models! As mentioned in the earlier post, I did sell some of my double/trebles of models (12 of them this week). I have been moderately good and so far have only ordered one (Special Hobby 1/72 Boomerang) and a variety of washes.

I think my wife quite likes the idea of me modelling these days as at least she knows where I am!

Regards

Guy

  • 2 weeks later...

First 3 new additions this year. First 2 were a new year gift to myself. This is last years re-release which has made it easier (and cheaper) to find. I'll probably do the Dauntless.

50821928427_b3e3e67599_c.jpg

And a 1/72nd Ju 88A-1 has been on the wanted list for a while, so was please when it was released last year, About time i grabbed it.

50821832451_3c17d206ae_c.jpg

And i was planning on getting AFV Clubs M109A2 later in the year, but this came up on e-bay for a good price and i thought it would be rude not to. This will be done in Op Granby markings.50821928367_63e0e48fd6_c.jpg

Got myself An Argosy, DC3 and Viscount to bolster my Airfix 1:144 range.  I flew on a Viscount when I was 7 (almost 60 years ago) and have been wanting to build a kit since then.  My father had built me a Viscount in sheet aluminium.  It's presently parked on my bedroom wardrobe.

This is where I've got to with the kit.  It had virtually no surface detail so I've been scribing some panel lines.
