walkingthedog
Our local charity shop has a copy of last years Hornby catalogue in mint condition. Price ........................25pence.
LCDR
Ah, and what condition are the 'used' copies? I wonder.
NWR-Gordon-4
@walkingthedog 25p isn't very much. They clearly don't know what it's worth. It go for more than that on eBay. @LC&DR I agree. What condition is used. Read once, torn pages or missing pages. Who knows?! You have to take the risk and purchase them and see what arrives! 😆 😉 😀 GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
walkingthedog
That's a charity shop price Jacob. If it was worth more it wouldnt have been given to the shop. The owner was happy to give it away. I can guarantee that the Hornby book we have been discussing will appear for a pound or less in the next couple of years. NWR-Gordon-4
The previous owner of the Hornby catalogue, before they gave the catalogue away to the charity shop, probably couldn't be bothered to list it on eBay or elsewhere. That could be the reason or similar, as why they donated it to charity. The Hornby Book of Trains: The First One Hundred Years book will be worth more than £1.00, even when it's used and a few years old. As I stated in my original post, I am willing to pay £20.00 maximum for it new, but I would prefer to get it new for less than £20.00, if I can. Howbi
Well it's taken 6 pages but we finally have a conclusion that GNR-Gordon will not pay more than £20 for this book..........how interesting!...........HB
NWR-Gordon-4
I think 56 replies (Including this one) and 6 pages, is more than enough to get this forum thread published into a book! 😆 😉 😀 GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
walkingthedog
I alway give books away unless I happen to be visiting a place such as Blackwells who buy second hand. Can't be bothered to sell them on eBay.

Carltonf
Mine arrived today - £20 as subscriber to Hornby Magazine. First impressions are excellent. It's a year by year overview of what was happening at Hornby, accompanied with hundreds of photos and illustrations. From the years that I have read already, it's going to be a great read and the sort of book you can pick up time and again for a casual browse.Well worth £25, but if you can get it cheaper, then even better! 96RAF
I have paid bargain prices and exorbitant prices for books I particularly wanted in hard copy, but often I can find digital copies for free, although not as satisfying as turning pages and certainly not as good where photos are involved. I tend to keep digital for reading (story) books and hard copy for picture laden or reference books. You can’t flip through a digital book like you can hard copy. walkingthedog
I have no digital books. I find them difficult to read. When I used to type briefing bulletins on a PC and read the result it looked fine, but when I printed it out and read it again it was full of typos. NWR-Gordon-4
Has the book been released already? That was quick! I thought it was due for release, at the end of the month. Is anybody able to post images of the cover and sides of the book only? Not any of the pages though, as that's probably copyright and would spoil the read for anone os planning to bu a copy of the book, themselves. Ruffnut Thorston
Any ideas about this one? /media/tinymce_upload/8d27195b5fadf9128537b9f2227cf852.jpg Is it an early version of the cover artwork? Or a different book?? Amazon..This title will be released on February 28, 2020.
NWR-Gordon-4
Sarah, what I mean by wanting pictures of the book, is that I want to actually see a copy of the book, to see if I can work out if it’s worth the RRP of £24.99. Random pictures of the front cover is not what I wanted. Thank you for the images anyway. 😀 Not seen that book before. Is it the same book, with Centenary Edition cover, if so I imagine it will be even more expensive! 🤔 😆 😉 😀 GNR-Gordon-4 (HF)
Howbi
@Sarahagain..........These are 2 different books..........one has 140 pages and the other has 448 pages and is published by Key Publishing who produce the Hornby mag........so, be careful which one you order folks.......HB

96RAF
A susbtantial book by any reckoning. Hardback, 448 pages and 800 illustrations./media/tinymce_upload/97df0cfc2fcdba408c94b5bf353111ac.JPG
NWR-Gordon-4
I don’t understand why there’s two different books. What’s the difference between them, apart from the number of pages? The Centenary Edition appears to be even worse value for money compared to the other book, which is the standard edition? 96RAF
Pop down your local library Jacob and ask if you can book them out, Then you can give us a page by page review of the differences.
