SD45elect2000
I guess I got a little tired of Mustangs for now. P-38s are tougher to build.P-38F from RS models and an Academy P-38 with Quickboost engine cowlings.

SD45elect2000
You're rattling these out quickly! Yes and no, I currently have 8 models in process. They are all in various stages on completion so sometimes 2-3 will be completed at nearly the same time. When I binge build part of it is because I can paint several models with one shot from the airbrush. The three navy planes shown actually took about 4 weeks to build. I painted all the stripes and markings and then shot all three of them with the silver paint. Suddenly all three were done.
SD45elect2000
To illustrate. Here are six P-38s , there are two P-38H one P-38F and three P-38Js , one of them is a Pathfinder plane by Dragon. There are three manufacturers represented. RS models for the P-38F and H, two Dragon P-38s including the Pathfinder and one P-38 J from Academy. I need to sand the filler on all of them then I will apply the neutral grey to 4 of them. The other two will get sprayed with Alclad gloss black primer. All six will advance in the build at roughly the same time. They should be completed within a couple of days of each other.I have a few more I want to do I have a P-322Mk1 and Mk2 in RAF colors. A P-38G (my only one) a P-38E and a D in addition to a pair of planes painted for Richard B0ng. Randall
SD45elect2000
Thanks Rod. I have a long workday ahead so the most I'll do today is sit and watch TV while I sand the joints smooth. Then I'll toss them in the sink and wash them. by the weekend I can start painting them. Randall
jopres57
These are three kits that I have enjoyed building over the last few weeks, although only one is Airfix. The Mosquito is the original Airfix issue from the 1950s, the only change on this seventies release was two new crewmen, who I had to replace anyway because they were two big for the cockpit. The underside should be grey but I decided to paint it ‘duck egg green’ as per the instructions. I always like building these old kits, another one was the Macchi Folgore by Frog. This was a model of an aircraft I’ve never built before. A Frog kit I did build back in the day was the dewoitine d.520, but this is the much more recent HobbyBoss offering. I was impressed by the quality of the decals, they adhered to awkward surfaces with no problems, as do Airfix decals usually. I always find it a bit of a downer when I look forward to putting on some colourful decals and then find they don’t settle well (especially if they are fairly expensive after-market ones). These three were all trouble free builds.
SD45elect2000
1/72 Dragon P-38 Pathfinder. Alclad metal finish, model master olive drab. AK interactive white. Something different anyhow.Randall
SD45elect2000
Two P-38 H and one with yellow spinners a P-38F.These are all RS models.
null_null981707818191
I must have had more down-time than usual recently, or it was just a much more simple build, but having posted this as a recent acquisition on June 16th, I've finished the Fiat G.50.Nice not to have to contend with bare metal finish or a very high (and fiddly!) parts count, but it does show the limitations of brush painting when it comes to mottled camouflage. Still, it's another one to add to my Desert Air War group.
SD45elect2000
I can't imagine trying to airbrush these complex Italian schemes. My plan is to brush paint the camo and maybe lightly sand it after to hide the brush strokes and thin out the paint a bit. I especially like the "fried egg" camo. SD45elect2000
I did two of these D Day painted lightnings, this one is about finished. This one is 1/72 Academy with the forward engine cowlings changed to Quickboost resin cowlings. They look ALOT better than the Academy parts !!!I still need to install the top canopy, I did this one with an open cockpit because I busted the other one in the kit.The stripes are painted on, and I decided that I would rather have a colonoscopy than to do more of these. I used a wide variety of different paint, model master, Humbrol, AK interactive, Tru color etc.Decals are Print Scale
SD45elect2000
This one is Dragon built out of the box. I used the decals from the academy kit that I built earlier.
Kenneth ONeill
Exactly so Rod; part of the issue is that we only really see display/museum painted warbirds these days.
