MikeMart
Just noticed that Gaugemaster listed HST swallow as due to arrive imminently. You have to check their news page to see it. Exciting times 😁
Dave the Busker
Nice to see they're also expecting the coaches imminently, I was expecting a wee while of running light engine before they arrived. Although, who knows what their definition of 'imminent' is...? I don't want to get my hopes up too high that it'll be any day now, as this is one I'm really looking forward to getting. Moccasin
With the TTAs, I seem to recall that imminent meant they had arrived in the UK. Hornby started processing orders a day or two later.

MikeMart
@Moccasin, that's what I thought too. Usually it is just a few days between news about arriving stock and processing of orders
LTSR_NSE
Ah @Rallymatt I see you have found a copy of Hornby’s glossary… I didn’t realise Gaugemaster had adopted the same one! 😉
Skelton Junction
Good to see Hornby supporting the dealer(s) with this information though.
Skelton Junction
The HST doesn’t even feature in Hornby’s own ‘coming soon’ section of the web shop
Rallymatt
I think somone at Gaugemaster has a twitchy finger near the ‘publish now’ button. Green 08….. @LT&SR_NSE, I found the details in a TT:120 publication in the small print, the document was in 1:120 scale 😳
PeterM67
If you believe what's embedded in the web pages for the HST items then we have 22nd Feb for the Exec HST + coaches and 8th March for the other 2 variants with the matching coaches a few weeks later so they are all close.Unfortunately both of those dates fall within the same credit card cycle for me so it could be an expensive month sweat_smile I will say that the product availability date was fairly accurate for the TTA tankers. Postman On The Rails
In noticed that the sound fitted BR HST I ordered was showing expected winter 2023-2024 now back to Spring 2024 and the Mk 3 coaches were still showing spring
Generic Hornby Username
Fantastic news! The TTA wagons were noted as "due imminently" on Gaugemaster on January 17th. So, if the same thing holds, we could start seeing people get charged for the Swallow HST in the next few days. Get ready!
John-L
Nice. It’s a beautiful model. I couldn’t justify getting one, but I was very tempted. The detail on them is incredible, and seeing one running on the display layout at Warley was very impressive.
moawkwrd
Kind of glad the blue version isn’t due yet - don’t think my credit card could take it. Look forward to seeing the reviews though.
Moccasin
I reviewed my finances the other day and that has probably (…) tempered the temptation to buy this model! I’ve got the sound-fitted Blue/Grey HST on pre-order (ordered with the discount code I got when they cancelled the sound-fitted exec HST) and am a little relieved that delivery of the 50 & 66 pre-orders have been pushed back a bit as my monthly credit card balances are already shocking by the time the statement come along.I’m hoping to go to Model Rail in Glasgow in 3 weeks, that may be an expensive decision as the Hornby magazine TT120 layout will be on show! Moccasin
Worth saying that Cheltenham MC are currently selling HM7000 decoders at a very similar price to the Hornby surcharge on decoder-fitted locomotives.
Skelton Junction
My station platform (and sidings lengths) allows for 3 coaches to be purchased with the HST Swallow. Given that information which 3 would be most prototypical?
Rallymatt
https://www.keymodelworld.com/article/high-speed-train-formations-intercity-125-hstThis might help people make up some suitable HST sets. A few shorties in there too 👍
Generic Hornby Username
Early on (1970s early 1980s), HSTs were in fixed formations. 253XXX of the Western Region were fixed 7 coaches. 254XXX of the Eastern Region were 8 coaches. Eastern Region were the first to start splitting the formations apart. Generally the Eastern Region kept things in the 7 to 8 coach range. Western Region were slower to split the formations apart, but also tended to stick to 7 coaches.I don't think this was super common, but there are always exceptions... 😉 Here's a picture of an Executive-liveried HST with three coaches:http://www.penmorfa.com/Archive/HST%203%20car%20Abergele.jpg It's an edge case, but if someone gives you grief you can always pull up this picture. Tim Allen
The 8F's on the Gaugemaster list page are now available to buy so the HST and coaches hopefully won't be far behind (This week?? please....) :)
Going Spare
I very much doubt whether the train pictured was in service as at least two of the coaches are buffet/restaurants.
Tim Allen
My station platform (and sidings lengths) allows for 3 coaches to be purchased with the HST Swallow. Given that information which 3 would be most prototypical? I'd go for First, Buffet and Standard. I can mange 4 plus the two units. Gone for 1 x First, 1 x Buffet & 2 x Standard. Skelton Junction
Unsure what the current day version is called but just seen a 3 carriage on the north wales mainline so that makes me happy
Rallymatt
If I was running a 3car HST, I’d probably go 1 first and 2 std or 3 standard. From the perspective a limited amount of passenger seating means the buffet car would struggle to justify its cost to run. But ultimately there seems to have been many variations over the years! 😁
Skelton Junction
I’ve two decoders ready for installation. I’m assuming there’s a speaker/sugar cube already in situ as there’s nothing mentioned in the description. Also, I’ll need to do the ‘consist’ thing.
