Luciton St James
Been a busy month for new arrivals . 8 of the Hornby Drax biomass wagons arrived , then 2 packs of the Accurascale mk5 Caledonian sleeper coaches & then the Accurascale mk5a TPE set. atom3624
Good going there.I've the TPEa set as well - received 2 days ago.Run faultlessly.I've yet to add their 'destination code' detailing - may wait for warmer weather as I can see that taking a little while - not the easiest in a pretty cool garage!Nice layout there.Al. atom3624
Postie brought this little beauty today - looks absolutely superb.Tests have so far shone. It has a firebox glow as well - obvious with the 9V battery test. It's relatively tiny, yet seems to weigh quite a lot.The centre axle is sprung and has very slight movement. It's actually a split chassis arrangement, with no separate pickups or wires visible - seems to work very, very well.Once home it'll definitely be put through it's paces!!(Tempted to get another!!)Al. atom3624
To complement the fantastic little locomotive from Rapido - anyone after an industrial loco this is one to consider (mine with crew now) - I've just 'won' The Earl R3870.FINALLY purchased a Peckett - I've been after one for ages - needed to be acceptable to me ... and now needed to be NCB to go with Holly Bank #3.Will be interesting to compare them. The Rapido has a fantastic finish, but is plastic. The Hornby has the metal body, so haulage comparisons could be interesting.Al.
Fazy
Well I wasn’t going to get these when they where original announced has I was modelling LMR 1960s but has I’ve switched to the LMS 1930’s I thought why not, the rest of the set is on it’s way and Queen Mary is on pre Order. Mind the Coronation Set looks good two! Could I live with myself buying a A4! Always liked the Silver Fox.
Simmo009
First two are sweet as, still waiting for the other two to arrive. The bargain was a DCC Ready J50 for just £25. After the initial double take, snapped it up pdq.
Simmo009
Given the spectacular failure of ‘no loco January’ (ended up buying 5) I will try again in February, unless my 2MT pre-order arrives, or maybe March, no wait, Ally Pally is in March, who am I trying to kid? atom3624
Well, my B2 Peckett 'The Earl' has arrived!Beautiful little locomotive, but typical of Hornby, just don't like the paint finish - might grow on me, but can't touch that of the Rapido Hunslet.Loco itself is a little gem, runs perfectly as it should, and should have fun on the rails together with the Hunslet hauling coal wagons!Al. DarkRedCape
Very nice Al, I’m a big fan of Peckett’s and I have one of these myself. Like yours mine is a lovely runner.I’m ok with the finish, but getting a decoder into these little locos can be fiddly.
atom3624
Cheers.Like I said, the paint's growing on me, but it's not Hornby's strong suit. The loco's lovely and seems to use as little power as the Rapido Hunslet, going on the battery test!Looking forward to getting her home, and on the rails!Al. Brew Man
Don't have one myself but am often tempted whenever I see them. Saddle tankers do look good.
atom3624
Definitely recommend now I have her running - smooth, controllable, and quite lively if required ..Al.
Bulleidboy
I picked this up at almost half-price from The Loco Shop in Fleet. I don't think it was ever available with lights? Do you think it should have them?
DarkRedCape
When these coaches go for nearly £40 these days, yes they should have lights. Even if it is the more simplistic Maglight system rather than the capacitor system.
Bulleidboy
I will probably fit the Maglight system just so that it fits in with the rest of the rake - should be a 5-minute job?
Stubaggieboy
Finally picked up Midland Pullman. I have been critical of Hornby in the past but this is another level. Runs beautifully, paint work is top notch. Stunning.
81F
As a Brake coach with no windows the lack of lights will probably not be noticeable. However, I'd be interested to know how easy it is to fit them
81F
Just taken delivery of the Hornby Warship "Benbow" a really smooth runner compared with the old LIMA one. However, the green body looks a little light when compare to my LIMA "Sharp Shooter".Sadly I lost one of the body fixing screws when fitting the Chip so on the lookout for a replacement :(
RDS
@StubaggieboyLooks great. And as you say, it's on another level.
atom3624
Totally agreed - Midland Pullman looks a very interesting set.Somebody somewhere mentioned a paint defect, perhaps on some, on the upper edge of the power / trailing car windscreens - is yours OK?Al. Stubaggieboy
Hi Al,I checked both power and dummy cars before I left the shop and yes they are both fine. The only slight moan I have is that the working fans are a bit erratic but I am not particularly bothered as you can’t see them when the train is moving.Regards, Stu. atom3624
That's great Stu.Love the layout.I love those working fans as well - interesting additional Hornby added perhaps 20 years ago to certain of their range.Al.
LesXRN
Not much for me lately, mostly some loco detailing packs. I did however buy a complete DCC fitted Duchess loco chassis. The plan is to fit it to my tender drive Duchess City of St Albans for which I have found a later tender chassis.I also found an A1 loco body, 4476 Royal Lancer, which I will swap for my Flying Scotsman body as I have the new steam one on order. That should give me a bit to do. atom3624
Well, that Hornby B2 Peckett is so much fun, I just had to get the near-matching W4 R3703 - best price at the Model Centre at the moment.Al.
