Without competition we'd certainly be worse off. We'd have to buy whatever the company chose to give us and, as sure as God made little green apples standards would fall and prices would rocket.

Sorry LB&SCR, but you're nice little dream would almost certainly rapidly become a nightmare !!

Is the loco not in the database yet CS?  Otherwise why would you enter them manually?

I chose the model when adding the loco to my list and when I clicked on the default settings button it came up with Steam 1 which was generally wrong. I have since read the forum about re-updating RM even though I have the latest Revision but since I have already inputted the functions I'll wait for the next listed revision.

Again even though the loco has travelled thousands of km it has worked well straight away though I did do a short run in on DC before using the run-in on rolling road program using RM.

Just wondering when did this topic become a what if  bachmann hornby became one.and or a RM problem discussion thread.

Both good topics to discuss but can we have them on a separate page so people know where to look if they wish to.

Getting back on topic I am anticipating the arrival of a Hornby Dublo three rail 8F 2-8-0. (There you are  Fazy I do like LMS locos :-) ) which I won at auction (No - Not Ebay!!) plus some matching goods wagons. That will nearly complete one of each original 3 rail Hornby Dublo locos, the only one I still need is the 'Castle'.

The parcel arrived yesterday. The loco was described in the auction cataloge as 'wire between loco and tender detached' so I had visions of a soldering job at very best and I bid accordingly. However the plug and socket were in good condition and the plug just needed pushing back. A quick test with an H&M Clipper and a loco cradle confirmed that I had secured a excellent bargain!

I can't wait until the next toy fair or HRCA auction to see if I can get a 'Bristol Castle' to round off my three rail HD 1948 to 1958 collection. Not bad considering I only started collecting it last year!

A new Hornby 20T brake van. I saw an awful lot of Dublo 3 Rail and 2 Rail in the Dagfields Antique shops near Crewe. Some boxed and most well used. I did see a boxed D8000 loco at £66 not in bad condition though the box was missing the yellow insert. All the items were a tad over priced in my opinion.

Over the last month or so:

A new early crest BR Standard Class 4MT specially fitted with 2 decoders for sound, directional lamps, stay alive, smoke, firebox flicker and crew.

I sent off a BR lined green BR late crest DCC ready Class 45XX tank loco and had it specially fitted with sound, firebox glow, cab light and crew.

A few days back bought a DCC ready late crest BR Midland Compound from my local model railway shop and have just ordered a new early crest DCC fitted version because I remember these running double-headed through Wellingborough years ago. The latter was online at the Sheffield store for a bargain price of £104 and free postage.

Gradually getting a very specialist and professional guy to update my DCC ready and fitted locos with various enhancements, especially sound.

Just taken delivery of two Wrenn six wheeled milk tankers in rather poor condition. Although intact, one has been badly repainted while the other has lost its transfers and is a bit grubby. I will probably dismantle them, t the metal bits in the Nitromors and modelstrip the tanks and repaint.

Why go to the trouble you may ask. These old wrenn/hornby doublo ones have different brake levers!

Some more little purchases for the retro, this week so far I have bought an R.003 station set, some distant semaphores and some wagons. Here's some of the retro wagons, they need some cleaning which will be done as time permits.

Just received a Baby Deltic and a North British Type 1 from Liverpool. I must say the Danish products are somewhat fragile with some of the detail detached. Not irretreivably so, they just clip back in, but I shan't be doing this until I have added a little superglue to aid adhesion.

Just got the GWR Clerestory Third Class Coach - R4669 and GWR Clerestory Brake Coach - R4670, just wish I'd waited a week before ordering one and preordering the other at the same time so I could have saved postage!

These are teally nicely finished and the paintwork really lifts what is effectively 1980s model. The only thing is the online catelog description says the R4670 "Entered Service: 1940s" which is not right. Cant get to my Jim Russells GWR coaches to get an exact datee but I would say it was certainly pre first world war and the livery is 1922-1927.

Still very nice and will make my troop train up to it's full 5 coach length.
