  1. I would assume the bigger the speaker box the better the sound? Space is the limiting factor. I have a Class 66 which will take the biggest box supplied with the decoder and I think it sounds very good - the real thing runs past the bottom of the road regularly, so I think the sound compares very well. The problem with most steam loco's is that space is very limited even in the tender. I have in one case lengthened the speaker wires and placed the speaker in the smokebox - it would still only take the smallest speaker box.
  2. You can now buy crew, both steam and diesel, and in various positions. They are 3D so super detail. They need painting, but that is fairly straightforward, and they are not expensive. Modelu is a good source - there are probably others. Here are some of mine awaiting the paintbrush.
  3. I don't recall it being a "Limited Edition" - just it was limited to 500 models. When mine arrived, the front body mounting screw was loose in the box, other than than that it was fine.
  4. Although I have seen it since, I remember my mother taking me to see the film in 1953 at the Odeon Cinema in Muswell Hill, London N10 - I think the cinema might still be there?
  5. I think you have been lucky - there are various lubricants available for model trains - Labelle's springs to mind - they produce a small kit with a selection of oil and grease. I believe sewing machine oil can be used as it is very thin. Many "normal" oils will thicken up over a period of time.
  6. How fast do you need to run them? I only did it once, but on full speed one of my HM7000 equipped steam loco's left the track on a curve (greater than fourth radius).
  7. If you pick up a copy of Hornby Magazine (there are others), there are numerous shops advertising that they buy "collections" - you might find one near to you. I doubt the track will have much value. You could also see if there is a model railway club/society in your town - just another option.
  8. I ordered this loco virtually when it was announced, some of you may remember, it disappeared from the site very quickly. I have an email confirming the order - and price! It was considerably cheaper than the "Club" price now being asked. It is also on my pre-orders list, showing the same details as my original email. I'm holding my breaththinking_face
  9. Calm down Brew Manjoy This subject has been running for so long on RMweb they locked the thread. I have yet to see a recent (last eighteen months) post where someone said "I ordered last week and it arrived today"
  10. I have just taken delivery of a DCC Concepts Jumbo Track Cleaner (Aluminium Oxide in Pure Rubber) - it's about the size of a bar of soap and can clean double track in one wipe! I thought my track was clean and was amazed at what came off on one wipe of the track. It is supposed to polish the track top rather than scratch, as some do. Not cheap, but appears to work.
  11. Best wishes to you Alberto and your family and I hope 2024 is good too you.
  12. Same here as Brew Man - will make my next spend after Christmas - free Easter Egg!!!!!
  13. I don't expect to receive my order - unless a new owner went through the paperworkworried - and before anyone asks - yes I have spoken to them on the phone - twice.
  14. I'm still awaiting orders from 2021 - I will say no more.
  15. I have done this and it worked perfectly. I accidently pulled the speaker socket off of the decoder. Soldering the wires as Rob (96RAF) has indicated worked without any problems. The pads are very small so be very careful when soldering - if you are able to "tin" the pads and the wire beforehand this helps. Does anyone know what gauge the wire is that is used for the speakers - and can you buy two-colour 2-core twisted wire?
  16. It's down to personal choice. I used pins throughout on my layout - I cannot remember who made them. With a pair of long nosed pliers I was able to push the pins through the Peco sleepers and into the 9mm ply top board. Very few, if any bent pins. Once ballasted the pins can be removed
  17. I used to get the opportunity to drive a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage (Manual) back in the early seventies - owner eventually sold it for £1250!! Sorry Mods. - I know this is a model railway forum - not carsface_with_rolling_eyes
  18. I would watch the one on ebay that is in an auction - currently £122 with six days to run. That may give you an idea of what someone is prepared to pay. I agree £954 is a ridiculous amount - I note there is a purple West Country Elizabeth 11 "70" where the asking price is £1497.95 - do sellers really think people will pay this sort of price??
  19. Track rubbers come with various surfaces depending on who you buy from. I have three, one is perfectly smooth and another has a surface like sandpaper.
  20. About to be fitted with a Hornby 21-pin HM7000 sound decoder and power bank, and may be a lights upgrade.
