I use DCC Concepts Cobalt Digital iP point motors and they are wired for both DCC and toggle switch operation. In my case the point motors take their power from the track (two droppers from track to the point motor) for DCC operation - and then two additional wires from the point motor to the toggle switch (On-Off-On sprung to centre). The point motor also allows for frog switching. It is quicker to use toggle switches for operation. The Cobalts have an in-built decoder so no additional accessory decoder is required and they are programmed rather like a loco. They have eight or nine terminals for attaching the various wires. Set-up is fairly straightforward. I use a Hornby Elite for DCC control so when operating a point, the signal is sent via the track.

Fishy - I have not checked it out, and I do have both, but the KC3 Class 66 sound is still listed at v1 - which obviously includes the National Anthem. I have v2 on another Class 66 and I'm pretty sure it does not have the National Anthem. I will check it now.

You could try finding a map on the National Library of Scotland site. They have maps of the UK taken in numerous date era's.

I'm not sure how "limited" the supply really is, other than when something comes into stock it sells out extremely quickly - hence the empty shelves. If I were to start with TT, I would use Peco track, which appears to be readily available, and then continue from there. Looking at the Hornby shop there appear to be a number of loco's in stock. The decision is yours, but I expect TT120 to be available for the foreseeable future.

It is concerning news and hopefully they will survive - which I am sure they will. What I find amazing, is that on RMweb, which spouts pages on the future of Hornby, and how it is badly run etc., there is no mention of Bachmann's possible problems - not a wordface_with_rolling_eyes.

Hi Kacper - you have been given all the advice necessary to check where your order is - if you can you may find it quicker to telephone Customer Services - I appreciate you are in Europe. I have a package that will be delivered tomorrow (Thursday) - and the tracking number has fourteen (14) digits. The normal email notification process is as follows: You get an email from Hornby thanking you for the order, which also says they will send you a further email once dispatched.You will then get an email from DPD saying they are expecting your Hornby Hobbies parcel and will be in touch when they have it and it is out for delivery.You will get an email from Hornby saying parcel dispatched today - the email will also include a DPD Tracking number/link - which in my case says the parcel is on it's way to the local depot and will be delivered tomorrow (Thursday), usually by 12 o'clock (lunchtime).I hope your package arrives safely. It was announced in September of 2023 that M.B. Klein had been acquired by Hattons. A representative from Hattons has issued the following statement to Model Railroader regarding the future of Model Train Stuff: “At this present time, the company is undergoing reorganization and we will share further news as to the outcome of this in due course. Hattons does own M.B. Klein; However, the two companies are operated as separate entities.” Since the announcement of Hattons closure, the status of Model Train Stuff’s website changed to reflect the current status of the company. A statement on their homepage reads: “We have stopped accepting orders, pending a company reorganization. Customer service agents are still available to handle order queries. We will provide more information as soon as it is available.” Originally founded in 1913 as a hardware store known as M.B. Klein, the company has since evolved into a model train distributor operating out of Maryland. The exact date of Hattons closure is not known yet, but an announcement is expected in the coming weeks. At the Great Gathering it was Dominion of Canada with the bell on the frontgrinning I had assumed it would have been DDE.

If your A4 is Dwight D. Eisenhower and is fitted with the 21 pin sound decoder, it will be similar to Flying Scotsman that ran with a bell on the smokebox door when it visited the USA - where 60008 now resides. Obviously the decoder sounds caters for all markets. Having said that I cannot find a picture of DDE with a bell on the smokebox door.

A rather dramatic title to this thread? One major retailer decides to call it a day, and one major "club driven" show decides to stop and it is the end of railway modelling. Lets review in a years time. Good reasons have been given for both of the above situations - I see no reason for doom and gloom yet. The articles written report on "clubs and societies" losing members - there are probably hundreds even thousands of railway modellers out there, like me, I don't belong to a club, I go to very few exhibitions/shows, and I buy, usually whatever I want online. So lets not go overboard on it being the end of the hobby.

From the photograph it looks as though the decoder would fit properly if turned over?

It would be useful/helpful to know which iPad you bought? Wi-Fi or Wi-fi/Cellular and how many GB's. I currently use an iPhone 8 when running trains, but have considered upgrading my phone (13,14 or 15) and possibly getting an iPad - bigger screen easier to read as you get older.

Have you tried turning the decoder over? 21pin decoders should fit and work either way up. Be aware that some Hornby 21pin loco's have a different pin configuration.

Yes I agree the TMC tribute was very nicely worded.

Not "fantasy land" Vespa - it's life. Everything is now more expensive - I have just bought a Hornby loco for £320 - yes it is a lot compared with what I might have paid ten years ago, but it was a one off. If you want something, you save for it. I would think that the profit margins on many items produced today are very small.

Who are we to know who might be in a similar position?? It's tough out there for many businesses.
