Yes, you can run the power car with a decoder and the dummy car without. The lights will not be directional in the dummy car. Assuming you are using a DC supply and the app, the only way to change them will be to physically turn the dummy car on the rails.

making my own stay-alives for HM7000TXS?

My mistake. -
The price difference should be enough to confirm 2 decoders.

Pretty sure it’s ateshci who mentioned voltage doublers and has used them with his custom PCB. -
2024 Range Announcement - 9am 2nd April
Fishmanoz replied to Dave the Busker's topic in Hornby TT:120
Just a comment on interest in TT:120: Back at launch, Hornby started a General Discussion topic on this forum. Over some months, it drew 245 replies. Already, this topic is about to break 300 replies in 2 days! -
I successfully installed driver and updated mine under W11 at first attempt, then reported it here last year, so was aware it continues to work. Glad I’m not the only one to have found it so.

So all the previous advice is correct and has been for some years now.

HM | DCC, not DCC!

Charlie, might I start by answering the question you pose in your title - by definition, yes it’s you. My point - you are much better off describing your problem briefly in your title. In this instance “Loco Becomes Unresponsive After 30 Minutes Running”. Then there is which forum to post this in - DCC because you are running an Elite; RM because you are using RM; or HM | DCC (HM7000) because you running an HM7000 decoder. For future reference, HM | DCC will usually be correct when you are using these decoders. But then, you’ve been lucky this time. LT picked your likely problem in one.

Colin, while the video doesn’t show how it’s fitted, a subsequent post with photo in the thread does. -
Have I understood converting from Analogue to HM7000 correctly?
Fishmanoz replied to Invicta's topic in Hornby TT:120
If I might start by answering your first question Invicta - yes, your old controller will control your 08. However, given it is now over 40 years old and insulation can deteriorate, have it checked out by an electrician first. On your subsequent questions on HM7000: You already have advice above to not use the old controller given Hornby’s recommendations and that the analog power track is suitable with the R7337 The HM7000-6 is not out of stock, it is yet to be released. Consequently the date shown may not be achieved. Also, until it is released, we don’t know if it will fit into the 08, although the indications are that it will in the absence of an N18 blanking plate for the Class 50, you could buy the analog DCC Ready version for now, then buy and fit either the HM7000-N18TXS or HM7000-N18 later when you have the decoder (not controller) for the 08 available. Note none of the non-sound decoders have been released yet. -
making my own stay-alives for HM7000TXS?

This is the thread to which RAF refers, hiding in the (wrong) TT:120 forum and now down to page 2 there: -
Noted RM. And not before time as I now have my digital HST sitting on the track and hopefully some time to play over Easter.

making my own stay-alives for HM7000TXS?
Fishmanoz replied to Darren-373700's topic in HM | DCC (HM7000)
Interesting ateshci, and everyone seems to have forgotten you posted this last year. In summary, you’ve completely ignored that the PB is controlled for all the necessaries to allow for charging and programming via the sound profiles and you’ve put all the sophistication for this in the proprietary mini PCB made by your friend. Is there any chance of this PCB or it’s design being available more generally? -
As you know Rob, we are just in the process of having many new HST digital owners running their new locos. The idea that they might need to pull apart at least the dummy car to put the decoder in a tester, or pull apart both and swap the decoders for programming, is not going to be popular to say the least. Then if the same problems persist once the consist problem is solved, there is going to be an outcry.

Interested to know where Hornby makes this (incorrect) statement, I can’t find it? I’ve looked under the dongle in the Shop and in the dongle quick start guide. In fact the guide is quite clear - separate dongles are for separate users, not for separate decoders. Even distinguishing DCC and TTS makes no sense. A TTS decoder is just a Hornby DCC decoder with sound using their TTS (twin track sound) system.

What brand RLM and what does flashing red signify?

Go to the HM | DCC forum and follow all of the advice referenced from there.

We seem to have strayed away from the OP’s original and negatively framed complaint that delay leading to an HM7000 decoder being fitted to his loco has caused him extra cost to run that decoder. Initial replies ignored the negativity and simply pointed out the decoder could be run by his existing setup at no additional cost in buying app hardware. Surely that’s an end to the topic?

Correct, not compatible. -
If you want to look at the definitive info on bus wiring, go to the General forum, then Useful Links near the top and scroll down to the Mark Gurries links under DCC. There is also some great info under Brian Lambert.
