  1. No Jacob you can enter the competition on the same device as many times as you lime but have to wait a minute between entries. I would say anybody entering more than a couple of times is being a bit daft, almost greedy.
  2. I do it all the time. Thought I’d reply to something on here the other day, answered the phone then went to the other forum and couldn’t work out why I couldn’t find the post on there.
  3. I wondered why you mentioned the forum competition. Does say magazine in the title. 😆
  4. No Jacob I would give it away. Wouldn’t seem right to sell it. Might to you but not to me.
  5. I just put in my details and my answer, if I win I win, if I don’t I don’t. It costs nothing so there is nothing to lose. I don't require any acknowledgement that I have entered. Now if there was an entry fee that would be different. They publish the winner, one day it might be me. I’ll probably win something I don’t really want. If I do I will give it away to somebody on this or the other forum I use.
  6. I did a similar thing with another loco as I had some spares. I’ve run out now. I’ll have a look to see what I can find. 😀
  7. Sorry to be a pain, which ones did you get?
  8. Atom where did you get the cylinder drain cocks from?
  9. I have a Bachmann 9F and two Hornby versions. In my view, without doubt, the Hornby is a far better runner and very difficult to tell from the Bachmann version. Quickest way is to look at the draw bar. I also have two Crosti's, they are fantastic.
  10. Heljan diesels are like bricks, you can hear the track groan. 😆 I think the problem with adding weight is eventually the loco has trouble moving itself let alone any rolling stock.
  11. Good luck with your layout Al. Most of my locos will easily pull 15 coaches or coach sized wagons, even the ridiculously light 72XX class steam loco, does look a bit daft on my layout though. The weight of a model loco does not always affect its tractive effort.
  12. Well done, bargain price. I had one long ago but only on loan. Here's a real one. /media/tinymce_upload/d20a2a64965edd843eaf021fcde25af4.png
  13. I have one sound steam loco, it is a USA loco. The light comes on, thebell rings, the whistle sounds and it makes all sorts of steam sounds but only the basic ones. There are dozens of sounds I can’t access and I can’t switch any sounds off, mores the pity. Just in case your wondering why I have it when I don’t like sound, it belonged to a friend who sadly died, I asked for something to remember him.
  14. Maybe it would be worth seeing what it can pull before adding weight. I have small locos that can pull more than large ones.
  15. Do not leave analogue locos on a DCC layout. There is power to the track at all times with DCC. This will fry the motor. It does not affect DCC loco for obvious reasons. They are fitted with decoders that need the continuous power supply to work.
  16. ''Only use this with newer trains that are DCC ready not DCC fitted as you can damage the DCC chip and that will be expensive to sort." SRmike the above statement is not true, you will not damage a DCC fitted loco on a DC layout. I have several and they run beautifully.
  17. DCC Ready isn’t DCC. It means it has a socket for a DCC decoder. DCC locos can be run on DC layout, but DC locos mustn’t be run on a DCC layout. You need a DCC controller and locos fitted with decoders to run DCC Locos. But as I said, you can run DCC locos on DC, but sound, switchable lights etc. won’t work, they just become ordinary DC locos. Somebody will be along shortly to give you a much much longer reply.
  18. My son is about to take his second course. You can’t take another within 3 years. Right BB that is your challenge. You will of course need to build a USA layout for it. 😆
  19. Yes I’m only interested in the forum. I do look at the rest of the site occasionally, mostly the shop and service sheets via the menu at the top of the forum.
  20. I guess the answer is if you don't want to waste an afternnon don’t speed Jj, or at least don’t get caught. I didn't get the offer of a course.
  21. Not obvious at all. I had to look it up. When I tap on the Hornby App it goes straight to the forum, not the Hornby home page.
