  1. Yesterday I went to the show, it was very well worth the trip from Bedfordshire for a round trip of 255miles. There was lots great layouts there and it seemed busyer this year. All in all it is great show. It was my second visit. I was able to buy the new hornby B12 R3544. Will go again next year.
  2. With Hornby only having limited production runs of new models. It is hard for them to produce spare parts as the production is in China. In the good old days they could make the spares when required at the factory at Margate. I had a new B12 which withing days of purchase bent the conecting rods due to lose screw on the wheels. I phoned Hornby and was told they dont have any spare parts for the new B12 and would have to wait a year. They suggested I try Peters Spares. They did not have the correct conecting rod. I ended up buying a replacement loco. and will keep the broken one for spares. The tender has been used to repair a B17.
  3. My B1 runs very well on DC, nice a smooth and pulls very well .
  4. I wish I still had my old duette. It was a great controller. I had it for over 30 years before it went wrong. I replaced it with my current Gaugemaster about 20 years ago.
  5. I have had the email and have picked myself off the floor after seeing the price. But hay ho things don't get any cheaper!
  6. My latest loco is R3632 Princess Coronation Class 6221 Queen Elizabeth. Wow what a great looking model. I thought the old model update was good. Well done Hornby, looking forward to the King GeorgeVI when it comes out later this month. The loco has great slow running and looks good pulling my Cornation Scot Coaches.
  7. T E Lawrence was Lawrence of Arabia.
  8. I use to have a problem that most of my Hornby a1 and a3 fleet would derail on points. having checked back to back measurement were ok and made sure the points were level. I found the solution was to add 3 small metal washer to the bogie and remove the spring. This gave the bogie much needed weight to stop it derailing. The A4 were never a problem so have not had to do it to them. My P2 only derails on one set of points but as it is in the mpd it need to go slowly which solved the problem..
  9. I have never found tender drive or traction tyres to be a problem. My tender drive models seem to need much less maintanance than the new loco driven loco's. Also will pull more coaches and trucks/wagons. true you have to change traction tyres now ad then.
  10. I have been doing running repairs to a coupe of my loco's. My B17 was in need of a new cylinder block as the valve gear attached to it came away. thanks to the good people at Petersspares I now have completed the repair and it is running again. The second loco is my D49 Cheshire which lost it smoke box door. Not being able to locate a replacement door, I managed to locate a spare body on fleebay. That body is off a D49 hunt class and not a shire class body so I will use the smoke box door off the hunt and fix it to my shire body. other repairs have been to my fleet of Gresley teak coachs, fixing broken parts. Now all fixed.
  11. MY LATEST ACQUISITIONS ARE :- MERCHANT NAVY CLASS ROYAL MAIL LINES, R3439 A1 WOOLWINDER.
  12. coming up to my 21 st for the 3rd time
  13. I had a similar problem with my points. It turned out to be the spring on the points was to strong for the point motor to move. I ended up replacing the point. It then worked ok after that. Before you replace the points try a new point motor first as I have heard that some of the motors sometimes are too weak to move the points against the spring.
  14. I have just received the new Hornby B13 loco. It has been well worth the wait. Just finished running the motor in and now to fit the vacum pipes etc then the lamps. I will enjoy my Xmas running my new B12 together with my new B17 and D16 Claud Hamilton. I must congratulate Hornby on the very best model so far brilliant detail on the B12 and smooth runner. Thank you Hornby.
  15. My Claudia Hamilton D16 arrived today I am running it in on my rolling road.
  16. I have decided, to move my turntable to another part of my layout, boy am i wishing I left well alone. My first problem was soon sorted, I managed to find a lose connection to the motor,so I was able to reconnect it. Then my second problem. The clips that hold the access track broke. Quick thinking small blob of super glue will stick it back in place, then sods law took over super glue did not stick to the plastic. So I thought about my problem and then glued the access track in position. So far so good. After getting it in place and wiring. It up then the test run a loco on and off then sods law strikes again, as you operate the bridge those pesky copper contact's at end decide to come adrift and refuse to go back so they make contact when turning a loco. Now it looks like I am going to have buy a new turntable. Then me thinks what about your spare turntable then remembers that one had the same problem so it was junked not to long ago.and before anybody says I should have made sure the bridge turned without problems beforehand. It did and only after final fixing did it start to jam causing the copper connections to come adrift Still that's why I like my model railway always something to do or fix. Sorry for a long winded post
  17. The Postman has just delivered my new Ivatt C1 Atlantic in LNER green and now I am a happy bunny and am testing it on my Hornby rolling road. The Model is from the Nrm Collection made by the blue box company. I have made the suggestion to Hornby for a number of years and it seems they let the competition do it. My only other recent buy was D11 LNER black 4-4-0. I am hoping that the new B12 and renumber B17 will be available soon. My model of Sandringham 2800 LNER B17 has had to go back to Hornby for repairs to the valve gear. So I have not been very happy with my model railway. So today I can have some fun and will soon be a happy bunny again.
  18. I havr completed my running in of my new J15 and am very impressed with the model. However, the Vac pipes etc are missing from the box so I wonder if anybody else has had the same prob with the LNER version.
  19. I have just bought a LNER J15 0-6-0 loco. I have been running the loco in and am now ready to run it on my railway. It looks a very nice model. Will report tomorrow how it runs.
  20. My latest loco purchase has been the long awaited LNER P2 2-8-2 Cock of The North. This a very good looking model and is very good a pulling 10 LNER TEAK COACHES WITH NO WHEEL SLIP. I am very pleased with it. The only thing I dont like is the new motor fitted. It not a resposive as the old one in the A3's and A4's. It needs more power to set off and then it ok. It is not affected by solo operation or pulling coaches.
  21. My latest acquisition is a SILVER JUBILEE LOCO AND COACH set off ebay. It came with 3 extra coaches. The loco is a loco drive china made QUICKSILVER 2510. The set is in very good condition. It now form pride of place on my layout and my other Silver A4's now have some Silver Coaches to pull. 6 coach train. The real train had 7 coaches. I am now waiting for the new Blue Box Thompson coaches to come out and then I can repaint my old Blue Box coaches to make the Coronation set.
