  1. What is the best flux for use on model railways when soldering. I am currently repairing a model loco and need to solder some wires to the loco chassis from the pickups.
  2. Class 313's have given 40 years service to the Great Northern inner suburban service from WGC to Moorgate and Kings Cross. They also ran to Hertford North and Gordon Hill to Moorgate. Some have seen service on Southern. They were dual Voltage as the ran on 25Ac and 750dc so were very useful emu. They also match the 319's Thames Link and also the Great Eastern had the own 314/5's which were only 25AC if I remember correctly
  3. Hornby did silver jubilee coaches a few years ago to go with the silver jubilee. They were not based on the proper silver jubilee set. Hornby's up and coming set of the Coronation set are in Marlborough and Garter Blue. The original silver set was repainted the same and all loco's were painted Garter Blue. So there is an chance Hornby could also make a proper silver jubilee set repainting the them silver.
  4. R3989 LNER A1 4-6-2 2564 Knight Of The Thistle. I had an email from Hornby on last Friday saying my pre-order for the new A1 was in stock and would be dispatched soon. Today I received my loco. DPD have delivered it within 3 working days. I am very pleased with the loco and am currently testing it on my Rolling Road. Very smooth running and working light in fire box. So far I cant fault it.
  5. Most of the Suburban coaches used out of Kings Cross before 1948 was made up with 2 brakes one at each end. one at each end of the quad sets. However when Thompson coaches replaced some of them they would have used a brake at each end. The rules changed in BR days when they intro BR suburban coaches to replace the old coaches. they had the brake in the middle, because of the shorter platforms at many stations on the suburban routes.
  6. Both my Hush Hush and Rebuilt one have not had any problems with front bogie travel. The only problem was with the front steps falling off on the hush hush. Both are excellent runners. I think I must have been lucky getting one of the first batch that have not had a lot of problems.
  7. The A1 and A3 built by LNER were mostly built at Doncaster, some were built by North British works Glasgow and some Darlington. Doncaster tended to use a lighter Apple Green than Darlington which used a slightly darker Apple Green. In the days after 1948 BR used a Dark Brunswick Green.
  8. My hornby catalogue does not mention lights on the LNER CORONATION coaches. I think you may have confused it with the LMS Coronation Scot set which does have lights.
  9. Hornby sent me my W1 R3840 back in December. I have recieved an email to say my rebuilt W1 R3843 is on it way to me. If you have not had your order yet I would chase Hornby.
  10. I went to my local Tescos to see if they had the Hornby catalogue in stock with Hornby magazine. They only had the mag. Will go again tomorrow to see again.
  11. I was able to place my orders for the LNER CORONATION TRAIN, A4 Empire of India. I also wanted to order the reissued SR Channel Packet MN. Could not find listed under new range. however after some research found out the R number and traced it on the Web page only to find it was sold out, but they were taking pre-orders for it so placed a pre-orders.
  12. My Hush Hush arrived today. it now on my rolling road running in.
  13. I found that most of my A1's and A3's front bogie would always derail on my Peco points and newer Hornby points. I have found that if I add extra weight to the bogie by adding small washer approx 3 and remove the spring seems to solve the problem. I have also notice that on my recent A1 Flying Scotsman and Woolwinder have been all able to use the points without derailing.
  14. I too have had an email to say mine is at the warehouse. Hornby have taken my payment so I hope it will be dispatched soon.
  15. I had the W1 in LNER Grey and in rebuilt LNER Blue on order and had them cancelled by my retailer. I now have them on order direct from Hornby. It seems they are very popular Loco's.
  16. In the current range Hornby have two versions of the Flying Scotsman. In the main range they have Flying Scotsman as A1 during her early period with LNER 1922 to1928 with single chimney, LNER Green . The Railroad Range has Flying Scotsman, LNER Green, single chimney with corridor tender 1928 to 1944, when she was rebuilt as an A3. There have been many version of her in BR Green 1948 to late 1950's when she gained her double chimney. As other have said there was ones with her fitted with smoke deflectors and double chimney. PS Hornby have a Flying Scotsman in BR Green as she is at the NRM York with double chimney and German Smoke deflectors, in the current main range as well.
  17. It's been an expensive couple of weeks. Arrival of my new coronation coaches and now tomorrow 2 Thompson A2/3. Plus I need to replace some point motors and levers.
  18. I used to live at Brookmans Park on East Coast main line. When I first travelled to London for work label were on the trains saying use front 4 coaches as the trains were longer than the platforms unless they 4 car DMU's
  19. I had all my pre-orders from Rails from last year cancelled. I hope my orders this year from Hatton don't get cancelled.
  20. I think other may have answered this , I beleave the loco that went to the USA in 1939 was the Duchess of Hamilton and had changed number and name plates with Coronation. Coronation ran as the Duchess of Hamiliton still in her Blue and silver. Duchess of Hamilton and her train where in red and gold . Once she returned to UK they both swaped back there numbers and name plates.
  21. I have now done the same and made an order for the nine cornation scot coaches from Hornby direct. Hope they dont cancel aswell.
  22. Rovex used to make one which I had on my model railway back in the 60's. The only problem its was super 4 track and does not connect to the current track.
