Malcolm-3634
I’m new to DCC and looking to install HM7000 on a LIMA 205132AB GWR Railcar 'No.22' or Hornby equiv. does anyone know if it is compatible and also what sound file would I use as I don’t see one listed. thanks.malcolm
96RAF
Standard DCC conversion for the motor type. No suitable sound profile yet so pick something roughly the same.
LTSR_NSE
@Malcolm - The most critical advice (which affects decoder compatibility options) is to perform a ‘stall test’ on your loco(s) see the following link:https://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/DCC-Page-1.html#stallcurrentYou may also want to look at the following link which discusses wiring decoders to various loco/motor types:https://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/DCC-Page-1.html#decoderinstalation
Malcolm-3634
Thank you both. Can I just check. All the YouTube videos if installing DCC on locos seem to say that you remove the capacity, but I believe the hornby instuctions are to leave the capacitor in.Can anybody clarify this for me please.malcolm
Brew Man
Yes, the capacitor is no longer needed. It is a legacy device that was there to protect against radio interference from other devices and to protect them from your device. With modern equipment it is no longer an issue, though for some reason it was never taken out of applicable standards. Hornby are doubtless just protecting themselves from possible litigation.
