Without being negative to her videos, I just didn't gel with her, a bit too professional for my liking. After seeing that list of previous then that may be the reason. I have seen a couple of TV presenters a bit like that, . . . this is my latest 'hobby' to earn a living. Good luck to them.

I have not actually seen any of her videos, only  a  preview what youtube thinks i want to watch.  Does she actually do any modelling or have a layout?   At least Jenny Kirk does have a layout, loft and garden.

I only watched one, that is when my gut-feeling kicked in, but she was pro-active and soon arranged a face-to-face with Hornby Towers suits.

As you say Jenny gets her hands dirty with the hobby - soldering iron and dremel, etc and she is fairly tech savvy.

I do not watch any YT that states "paid promotion" no matter who it is or what it is about.

People like Matt with Highfell do excellent videos on various subjects to help people without wanting any financial gain from it and those ones I do watch, not the ones who get paid and get freebies etc for doing it.

In my opinion their "love" of the hobby has gone and it is done for financial reward.

That is my personal opinion others I know will have different views.

Agree with the above - not all model railway YouTubers are the same. I definitely enjoy those who are clearly doing it because they enjoy it more than anything else more than those who start every video with mentioning a sponsor or asking for likes and subscribers. I probably watch OOBill videos more than anyone else’s - fixing model trains is therapeutic.

Thanks @Silver Fox 17 for kind words. My stuff is just me filming bits for fun and sharing techniques, fixes, using my phone. I know you do similar and some people like this approach. Others want different things and I am very happy to leave others to go about it their way.
Revenue for the likes of my output would only ever be a pittance should it even ever qualify! I am flattered with nearly 800 subscribers though 😁👍 By avoiding any commercialism it inflicts the least amount of advertising on viewers, which is worth more to me than the tuppence I am ever likely to achieve 🤣

On the DQ issue, yes she has a really great B&W layout ‘Brief Encounter’ inspired by the film, and she is on another exhibition layout build. I don’t like all the content but some of it has been very good, funny and professional which suits the ‘interview’ features well.
Others in the list worthy of a mention, Mouldy Raspeberry and Proper Chuffed.

Regarding Healthy Eating and TT:120, I am planning a deep drive into this subject thanks to new Channel Sponsors: Greasy McDoughnut Offal Tubes Inc. Premium subscription will be available for no particular benefit (to you) Merch range of branded tat and buy a Birthday Greeting all at vastly inflated zero value prices, buy now to ensure disappointment!

😁😁😁

Even if you have sponsors, if you can contribute something to the topic of TT120, I would be happy to take a look at them. If only to help the TT track size become more widely known.
Many drops fill a lake. Without drops there would be no rain and therefore no inland waters.

I myself started watching YouTube when Hornby posted their first videos about TT120 on the internet. And that's pretty much the only topic that I watch consistently on YouTube.

Accordingly, the nomination of TT120 Youtubers for the Hornby Magazine Industry Awards would greatly contribute to the awareness of TT120.

I have mixed feelings. It takes a lot of time to shoot and edit videos, plus a bit of investment if you want to move beyond the standard smartphone video with ambient lighting. I can accept that some sponsorship is necessary if you want to do that. It saddens me a bit when it changes the relationship with this forum but it is what it is.

I do think the individuals we know and like on here have been open and transparent about what they are doing and I respect that.

My own YouTube channel content will be reverting back to more of my original idea of following the progress of my layout build, now that after 18months of hunting, I’ve finally got a job in the industry (at the TMC)

So although I’ve got contractual obligations to sponsors, these will eventually run their course.

All credit to anyone that gets sponsored making money, or rather something towards costs, making informative YouTube videos. I’m not jealous of that so will watch anything that interests me. It’s no different to magazines or tv having paid adverts. It’s always been like that.

Personally I watch content that interests me & very much doubt that I will watch every video that any person uploads.

Patronage, commissioning, advertising, sponsored content, branded merchandise, personal messages etc. are all (imho) perfectly legitimate ways of seeking financial support with making content - after all there is no obligation for involvement & no form of Art, Entertainment or Hobby would exist without them.

Seeing some of the posts above I can’t help but feel some people have got the wrong end of the stick when it comes to model railway YouTubers... though obviously I’m going to be biased as someone who has built a moderately popular channel.

That said, I’m happy to be as transparent and open as I can on the topic so if anyone has questions or concerns about things like sponsorships, ad revenue, advertising, etc and how it all works (at least in my case), feel free to ask away - either here or in a separate topic if that’s more appropriate. I'm not looking to change anyone's mind but generally I try to engage with the community as much as I can.

Getting back to the original topic though, I have been nominated in the Hornby Magazine Awards and since March the majority of my videos have been focused on TT:120 - both the construction of my own layout and generally trying to showcase the scale in a positive light. If you’ve seen and enjoyed any of my videos and would like to see more TT:120 creators nominated in the future, then might I humbly suggest that slinging a vote my way might show those in charge that the scale should have more representation in the future.

@Peachy  my turn to feel dense!

Are you implying that some of Dawn’s videos belong on OnlyFans?  Or something else entirely?

Without the ability to understand your true intention - I am starting to (hopefully mistakenly) infer something that has no place in either the hobby or this forum.

I know nothing about ‘purchasing’ subscribers or how anyone can find that out but in terms of content, the latest video from Dawn is a really great interview with Pete Waterman. She is good, asks good questions and let’s guest answer. (Some on TV could take note!)

Pete is a superb ambassador for the hobby.

Can’t we keep this discussion to promoting positivity rather than casting aspersions at others. Some of the TT120 community pride themselves on positivity and inclusion. Let’s try to keep to the high ground.

I think it would be difficult for a TT120 only channel to qualify. It’s too niche. Although I certainly think Peachy’s is the best one but I enjoy them all. Anyway one of my other favourite YouTubers is nominated so I’ll just go with them.
