poliss
Hornby have put photos of two versions of their new Duke of Gloucester on their Tumblr page. http://hornby.tumblr.com/
walkingthedog
Bit better than the one on show at Ally Pally although that looked pretty good to me.
Bulleidboy
I agree, it looks pretty good.
JohnnyGee
I'm rather disappointed, the detail on the body looks to be no better than an old Margate Britannia.
SkyCube
I'll want to see how good that moulded detail looks in reality before judging. I reckon I'd probably be happy with it, but I'm not so sure about some people.
cooped
I'm trying to reserve my judgement on the design clever approach, but I must say for my preferences I'm not very impressed. I applaud the effort to make the models more affordable and I'm sure for many this will be great, but I'd rather buy less and maintain detail levels than lose the details in favour of lower cost. I've heard that somewhere there were assurances from someone that the handrails on DoG would be wire, but clearly these on this are not. I'm not interested in buying DoG, but I did pre-order Cock of the North. I'll wait to see pictures of the final model, but I may end up cancelling that based on what I see here. Jeremiah
It was indeed mentioned on their facebook page that there would be wire handrails. I'm not to bothered by it. It looks beautiful. ** Were there any more Std 8 locos or just one?
GeoFF03
"** Were there any more Std 8 locos or just one?" DoG was the sole example of this class.

They had an early model painted a sort of mid green with no other markings at the Ally Pally show. The detail looked very good and remember it was just an early test sample. I think it is going to be an excellent model.
VESPA
Clicking on the photos enlarges them and I think it looks very good. The handrails look fine to me. The only thing wrong with the photos is that the tender is not attached to the loco and the front steps are not fitted. On the whole it looks a good model. walkingthedog
I get the impression that the full price model will have wire handrails and the Railroad version might not. All I can say as before is that the early model I saw looked great.
Postman Prat
The Stanier 8F is certainly a class 8, as are the Kings, Merchant Navys etc but non of them were included in the Standard range. From a practical point of view the 8Fs certainly were a standard class, even more so than than the Black 5s. walkingthedog said: GeoFF03 said: "** Were there any more Std 8 locos or just one?" Postman Prat
On the twitter page Hornby are saying that the Special Edition will have wire handrails on the deflectors. It doesn't say as far as other handrails are concerned.
mortehoe
What about the WD 2-8-0. Greater number produced, I will also stick my neck out, and say even less variation than the LMS 8F.
poliss
From the Hornby Facebook page. "Please note this model is hand built/ hand decorated pre-production model and not at it's final stage On this model (Special Edition) the following will be provided in a separate bag: Etched Name Plates Vac Pipes Front Steps Chain Guard Drain Cocks Cab Door Brake Rods Tender Brake Rods Separate Hand Rails for Smoke Deflectors (the model shown does not show these)"
walkingthedog
I always think its best to wait until the production models appear before we start complaining about what it has or hasn't got. It'll be in the magazines before it appears in the shops then we'll know wat it's got. Your list seems pretty comprehensive poliss. Thank you. Jeremiah
Just to confirm any doubts, Hornby themselves have stated (on twitter and facebook) that this was the older sample piece and therefore lacks a few things. The final higer spec model will have what poliss mentioned.

walkingthedog
I think the hand rails are the only things that are unusual extras. Quite a few of my locos have had the other items to fit.
walkingthedog
Maybe not the chain guard. I thought it was a loco not a bike.
walkingthedog
At least nobody will be able to complain about them falling off as they took it out of the box.
Bulleidboy
That's true. I have one on order - not sure why as I tend to collect "southern", but it looked good, and is due out in July (2013).
SkyCube
I've often thought the best way to avoid the fuss about "fally off bits" is just to supply them separately. Helj@n seem to do this; the locos out the box are pretty bare, but all the detail can be added easily yourself. I suppose some people will just complain about that too though. walkingthedog
You're right SkyCube, 'I dropped a bit when I took it out of the plastic bag and I can't find it, it was far better when all the bits were already fitted to the loco'.
