    Bluetack is a ridiculous idea. Paint is very good as is very thin double sided tape available from craft shops among others.

    Turn the loco upside down, apply some power to the wheels and see what is catching. If you can’t see anything then it must be inside.

    I see your point. The Dapol version makes the old Hornby/Lima version look very poor, even for the Railroad range in my opinion.

    As I said before surely they only produce TTS decoders for locos they currently or recently produced. I don't think they have made a Western for over 10 years. 😀

    Surely stopping a loco on a turntable is exactly the same as stopping it anywhere. Nice and slow then stop.

    51XX would be a nice choice but more for suburban passenger trains, not branch or freight.

    They are steam or diesel locomotives not trains. A train is the loco and all the rolling stock that it is pulling.
