  2. looks good ratch i do like the harrier, got a few 1:72 scale waiting to be done the 1:24 are just too big for me to put anywhere once built
  3. its the green circle top right corner with a magnifying glass in it next to the basket ken
  4. Hi rod, I do rod not had any problems, just painted the nose cone on my lightning, acrylic No 56 first as that was the overall colour of the parts then enamel No78 on top of that as that was just the small portion of the squadron colour, i have a big range of enamel colours some many years old out of a old collection i bought when starting up again, got plenty of the small pots of acrylic which come with the starter sets which i find great to use. I use both but given the choice if i have the colour in both of them, i use acrylic first, i can thin them down with water if need be if painting a large area i can just dip my brush in water to clean it if the paint is starting to dry on the brush (wipe the excess water off on a tissue) and just carry on and it dries a lot quicker than enamel (especially when done as a thin coat) so can paint more coats in a shorter time. You don't have the smell / fumes from the paint or thinners like with enamel paints. If you make a small mistake when painting its easy to wipe it off straight away making it easier to paint over the correction with just a small thin covering of paint As for cockpit glass you can paint over the frame onto the glass and once dried use a cocktail stick to gently scrape up against the frame to get a nice neat edge. and best of all if you get acrylic on your hands ( mainly when stirring the paint in the pot) you just wash them under the tap no using thinners and a cloth to get it off like enamel. Always acrylic first for me from now on
  5. it was ratch they were asking £15 for it tried to get it for £10 but wouldn't go any lower than £12 but it was still sealed inside and decals are in good condition so that another one added to the stash
  6. picked this up in an antique shop the other day for £12
  7. got this sat on the bench, on this one i used the modelcraft collection precision masking tape 3mm thick acid free on this one, not too sure if acid free makes any difference but iv used it a few times now and its not lifted any paint or left any marks behind. as ratch says make sure you rub the edge down to stope paint bleed, to cut the tape i use a sharp blade in a craft knife i don't have any scalpels, once painted i let dry and the peel the tape off nice and steady on the wings i bent the tape over the edge and stuck it onto the under side making it easier to get hold and peel off, on the body i put in place and then trimmed with a knife to the right length, to peel off i use a cocktail stick to gently prise the edge/corner of the tape up opposite the painted edge.

    New Kit

i agree with ratch its got to be something you want to build for me its mainly aircraft tending to go towards the older planes WWII but throwing in a jet or 2 evey few builds.
  9. A two part resin needs both parts to meet ( mixed together ) to cause the chemical reaction to set hard as it should
  10. thanks randy thats a really good tip to know from you and ratch
  11. im still experimenting with the bits i paint whilst still on the spur aircraft wheels i now do still attached just leaving the little bits to sand and paint where once attached the canopy's i paint before fitting and is the very last thing i fit on the plane, if i use acrylic paint iv found you cant scratch it off the glass part when i go over the edge of the framework very gently with a cocktail stick, does work with enamel paint but not as good a good tip i got from ratch was to paint the body/wings before attaching things like wheels and small fiddley bits that can be easily knocked off whilst holding it and painting if im painting a small piece that's too small to hold say like the pilot (1:72 scale) i use an old paint brush that I've taken the bristles off and put some blue tack on end and i stick it in just enough to hold it, im able to paint it at any angle and turn it round without getting covered in paint and then stand the brush handle out of the way till its dried and finished.
  12. not done d day stripes yet but the stripes i have done iv taped and painted instead of using the decals ratch is the 6mm tape for 1:76 scale its good to find that out for future reference iv got some d day planes to do do at some point

  14. all coated in gloss then decals put on, once decals have dried a coat of gloss over decals to seal them in. spitfire left as gloss as these were metal. hurricane after gloss then had a coat of clear matt all over once the gloss has fully dried, as these were fabric covered thunderbolt gloss with the olive drab stripe having a coat of clear matt to dull it down a bit
