1st radius gets a lot of hassle. On my layout I have a complete R1 loop and most of my recent stock runs fine on it. That includes: All Hornby 0-6-0s, B12, A4, Pecket, J15, Pullman coaches. Bachman Prairie, USA tank, DJ J94 and O2. The J15 is a lovely model. For a tender loco that would be my choice.

I find it quite hard watching - not as bad as the Model Railway Challenge, but cringeworthy nonetheless. It's nothing to do with Hornby, but the manner in which the production values frame the protagonists and us, the community; the false suspense, excessive hyperbole, caricature-ification of people - I feel it sets us up to be mocked by any audience that isn't part of the community it's focussed on. Instead of being engaging and accessible, i feel its framed in a way that sets the modelling community apart.

Same here. Except I have a very small number of droppers. The biggest issue is they pop out and/or trap dirt - they need cleaning every so often.

Mine is spectacular on DCC, a truly excellent and reliable low speed runner.

Ron Lines in Southampton is great. There's also a great place off the seafront in Eastbourne. There's a new one about to open in Cowes on the isle of Wight too. The existing IOW shop in Ventnor is also great.

I usually do 24 hrs. The first 14 hours it seems soft, then it suddenly seems to go solid. I do the 50/50 water/PVA mix but add a splash of Meths - this ensures the ballast dries matt and helps break the surface tension of the mix.

I wonder what the cost saving would be today, if Hornby reverted to a tender drive loco? The upcoming LMS Princess Royal 'Princess Victoria' RRP is £235. That is a LOT. If making it tender drive cut the cost by even 15%, I'd be more likely to buy it. Ultimately its a plastic loco with an electric motor so realism is out of the window from the get go - does it matter where that motor is? Not really. Does it matter where the motor is if the positioning of said motor has an impact on cost? I'd say so.

Nah it's fine, I've just uploaded a pic of mine, so when it's approved you'll see. Its steep and not realistic but all my stock handles it fine.

Well, here's mine grinning 8x4 on 2 levels; 5 continuous loops (4 mainline, 1 narrow gauge), a narrow gauge shuttle and lots of sidings. Plus it all fold up against the ceiling!

Indeed, my narrow gauge lines all have a DCC chip direct to the track thus none of my OO9 locos have to be chipped. It's handy as I can control the 'dcc track' from my main controller without having to faff fitting decoders in tiny locos, plus my non dcc locos can run on the DC shuttle section.

But at the scale distance you are form the loco, surely in real life you'd never hear that.

These respond really well to extra weight. I have the same chassis on a 'Jinty' it's its low speed running and reliability over points is right up there with my newer models.

It's really interesting to read peoples thoughts. I think perhaps what I have seen at shows/on youtibe is the FULL VOLUME LOOK IT MAKES A SOUND type affair, in which the subtlety is totally lost. The idea of them being quieter and becoming more audible as they reach you is a much nicer prospect.

I was reading the DCC Sound Supplement in this month's Hornby Magazine which I get via Readly - which I highly recomend. But honestly I think DCC sound is just awful, I have never heard any sound fitted loco that sounds remotely realistic, it's just dreadful tinny background noise to me. I have a 5 loop 'roundyround' setup with various branch lines - having 6 locos in action all making their noises would be just horrific. Am I alone in this? And for the Sound users - what do you enjoy and does the expenditure increase your enjoyment of your locos? I must confess I do enjoy running an old B12 with the sandpaper fitted tender... for about 5 minutes, then I swap to a non sandpaper tender!

Am I being a total numpty; I can't see any way to filter results in the online shop by era?

I've converted Peter Sam to run on my OO9 track, its nice, but quite heavy.

Not mad at all. My 8x4 layout folds against the ceiling of an angled loft space. There are pics on this forum somewhere, bt I'll share some more. The 'box' is about 62 deep which gives enough height for permanent scenery. Anything over height is detachable. I even have pulleys and ropes to assist, but it can be lifted manuall. All retailers will always try and bat it back to the manufacturer. This is wrong. The revisions to the consumer rights act of 2015 state that your contract is with the retailer. It is there responsinbility to ensure the goods you agreed to buy are as described and fit for purpose. If not, you are entitled to a refund or exchange. Additionally, section 75 of the act states that your credit card provider holds equal responsibility for that provision so if the retailer will not refund you, your credit card issuer must. My usual tact is to get a nice email from a manufactutor representative stating that your claim is with the retailer, add to this a gentle reminder to the retailer of their responsibilities under the revisions to the 2015 act and strenusously and politely enforce your desire for a replacement.

The (entirely non realistic) gradient on my layout is a rise of 8cm around curve 120cm long. Everything get's up fine, but it's probably not practical for running long trains.

I've just built an OO9 element on my layout. I've got a 3D printed body on a Kato chassis. The track is currently wired DC, but so I can control it from my DCC controller I'm going to solder a DCC chip to the track and connect it to the DCC bus - has this been done before?

Ah that explains why mine are taking so long. A little antiquated system perhaps but I guess this is a manufactrors URL and they are responsible for anything published.

I had my finger over the 'pre-order' button for a couple of days but decided in the end I couldn't justify it. I assume Hornby wil do another run as they've significantly in the tooling. Maybe they'll do some diffferent liveries 😉
