pidder
Seems to have been a lot of talk about staying logged in, but I can't find explicit instructions how to do so, Is it possible or must I log in again each time after leaving to go to some other web site? Seems an unnecessary hassle.
walkingthedog
I tend to find it logs me out if I dont use it for about 8 hours.
pidder
Hi wtd I'm getting logged out most times if I just leave the site. Just wondering if it's anything to do with not doing a restart on my laptop, I usually just go to "sleep" mode when I close down.
Chrissaf
Most of the time, my Hornby forum login stays valid ALL day from 9am to 11pm or longer. Yes, occasionally it logs out sporadically, but just recently I have found continued log in very stable, even if I close the browser. What I don't do however is have my PC (I don't use a laptop) configured for auto power down or auto sleep when no activity is detected. I just have a screen saver configured to engage after 30 minutes.
pidder
Hi chrissaf Thanks. just wondered if I was missing a button to enable staying logged in. Appears not.
Chrissaf
No..... there is no specific forum site setting. The most likely reason that you have found a lot of forum dialogue in this section of the forum regarding 'staying logged in' is because the forum has in the past gone through periods where staying logged in for anything more than 20 minutes or so was a serious issue. It was down to forum software and hosting server issues. These seem to have been largely resolved now as the forum logging in duration for most members seems to be stable.. dynax
it is also possible due to your browser settings, i use firefox and have my preferences set to delete cookies when i close my browser, this means that sites i log into are automatically logged out of, wether i log out or not, just my preference from a securtity aspect,
pidder
Hi dynax, just picked up yours, pretty sure I'm not clearing anything when going to sleep mode, some sites have an option to stay logged in... remembered. Not here apparently.
96RAF
I have been continuously logged into some forums since I joined, except for the odd occasion - not this one though. Some forums allow you to be signed in on more than one machine at the same time.Rob
NWR-Gordon-4
I find that the fourm keeps me logged in for about an hour, then it logs me out. There seems to be no way of keeping yourself permanently logged in, which is annoying. GNR-Gordon-
walkingthedog
I occasionally log myself out but generally stay logged in all the time, unless my iPad battery goes flat.
pidder
Forgive me for returning to this subject, but, it really is a pain having to log in again each time I go to another site. Is it beyond the capabilities of the site managers to enable me to stay logged in until I actually log out?
walkingthedog
It never logs me out unless I complet turn off my iPad (more likely the battery going flat).
RB51
It must be something in your settings Pidder. I've been logged in all day. We need our techie AC to comment. R-
Chrissaf
I don't currently have a 'logging out' issue either. Are you using a WinPC or an Android/IOS decvice?
NWR-Gordon-4
I find that my iPhone keeps me logged in longer than my HP (Hewlett-Packard, not HP Sauce! 😆 😉) laptop does, that runs Windows 10. GNR-Gordon-
2e0dtoeric
I'm using windows 7 and Firefox with a desk-top tin box, and unless I deliberately log out, I'm in for as long as I can bear looking!A few times, when I've been channel-hopping, looking for something, I've accidentally closed the Hornby 'window' without logging out, and several hours later, came to log in agan, and found I still was from previously. How long it will hold 'in' I don't know, I've never tried that. - several hours, though. pidder
I'm using Windows 10 on an HP laptop. Can see no reason why this should be a problem. Haven't cleared cookies or anything. Tried leaving the Hornby page open, then opening a fresh page for other sites, still no different when I open up after a "sleep" period.
Yelrow
Do you think they are trying to tell you something. My desktpo keeps me logged in for some time, unlike ipad, which has a mind of its own.
