Postman Prat
@jacob 1857 You are still missing the point - it's not a coach, it's a single car unit with its own motor, much the same as a DMU/EMU. I agree that £200 is a lot of money but most of the Hatton/Rails/Kernow productions are models unlikely to be made by the mainstream manufacturers. Thet are expensive because not so many people are going to buy them. The cost of tooling the body is the same whether you sell 1 or 100.
NWR-Gordon-4
@walkingthedog Did you buy it by mistake? @POSTMAN Prat OK, so it’s a DMU, but it still costs more than the average well-detailed locomotive costs. What did you mean by 1857? GNR-Gordon-
walkingthedog
No I bought it because, well I don’t know, I just fancied it.
NWR-Gordon-4
Now you don't really know what to do with it! 😆 GNR-Gordon-
Kevin Hodges
Fantastic, I am going to pre order one of these beauties! Thanks for the info Howbiman Kev.
Fazy
£200 for a highly detailed (DMU ) type thing not so bad look at Hornbys Princess Coronation in the same ballpark.not to mantion it probably won't have a rerun for 5years~ until the tooling rights revert to Heljans control. Just like a certain Garratt 2-6-0+0-6-2 has recently done.
JeremiahBunyan
OK, so it’s a DMU, but it still costs more than the average well-detailed locomotive costs. GNR-Gordon-4 It's a "Railcar" or a "Railmotor".... The cost is very basic economics. If product A applies to the masses, it can be mass produced at a cheaper cost. Of product B applies to a niche market it can still be made in masses but not as great as product A and therefore has a higher selling price. Buz
Hi allFinally a right up to the minute modern image rail-car I actually like 😆Would be nice if the holiday home version was made as a plastic kit as well. That rail-car should be an absolute must have for the space starved branch line modellerMust check finances and see whats available 😆regards John
Kevin Hodges
Now that's thinking outside the square John. I'd like to see a plastic kit of the rail-car as it was found in the bushes, complete with a miniature figure of the old tramp who probably resided in it, giving the 2 finger salute.! 😀 Kev. NWR-Gordon-4
@JeremiahBunyan You are right. Rails of Sheffield are admittting that each railcar is being produced in small quantities, so this probably has affected the price, as why it’s so high. If they were to put a generous normal amount out, wfat ever that number, is I would like to think they it would be cheaper than this. walkingthedog
This is the very reason I model an era, if I didn’t I would have three times the number of locos I have. Saves me from temptation 😆
96RAF
Coach £30 plus motor bogie £20, transfers and paint £10, bit of bodge filler, job done.
walkingthedog
Pay somebody 140 quid to do it.............200 quid.
NWR-Gordon-4
I don’t model to an era, as mainly focus on the Thomas ranges, so I just try to buy as many Thomas products as possible. I do buy some real life models, but not as much as I do with Thomas. Of course, I buy all Eddie Stobart locomotives and rolling stock too. Obviously these only go on the layout when here’s nothing Thomas on the layout. GNR-Gordon-
JeremiahBunyan
Pay somebody 140 quid to do it.............200 quid. Interestingly I did my own calculation in a hypothetical situation wherein someone ordered one from me and it worked out pretty much the same excluding design costs, which when included is still lesser than the forthcoming RTR one... mjb1961
I want to pre order one but can't decide on which one ,,,which would be the most desirable? walkingthedog
I think it is time for you to make your own decision as the model doesn't exist yet. 😉
NWR-Gordon-4
mjb1961, the model has only just been announced. I am sure there will be another year or more before they arrive anyway. Surely you must be able to decide which one you want in that time. 😉 😀 GNR-Gordon-

NWR-Gordon-4
Just another full year and a bit. Depends if it's due earlier 2020 or late 2020. It's likely to arrive in November or Decemenber 2020, that's two years away! GNR-Gordon-
walkingthedog
Plenty of time to save up then. No rush is there. Nobody knew there was going to be a model until a couple of days ago. If we’re going to go down the when it’s likely to arrive route, maybe they’ll surprise us and release it next week.
