Wishlists 2021

Does the wish that Airfix would dip their toes in the 1/32nd scale aircraft arena count?

No?

Ok then, how about a deHavilland Vampire in 1/24th scale please? Surely much of the research was done for the 72nd scale offering a couple of years ago so that ought to help.

Used by a few airforces worldwide to help with marking options, not too large dimensionally or too complex physically but with bags of character. It would be great to see the design team go all out on this one.

Cheers,

Guy

I agree with all the posters about a V-Bomber resupply set. I have a complete collection of the V-Force, though the new Vulcan is tempting with the conventional payload (though it would need a fin with the Radar Warning Receiver and a pylon for an ECM pod to make XM607 on Black Buck 1.

I would like to see some more 1/72 vehicles, my son and I already have enough Tiger 1s and Fireflies for our wargame forces and are looking out for reconnaissance vehicles and support weapons, plus some nice new figures would be welcome.

Of the Vintage Classics - I would love todo HMS Fearless again; I have just finished Ark Royal and really enjoyed my ship building phase in the mid to late 1970s.

As a classic jet fan I would love to see more of these in 1/72 - Meteor, Vampire FB5, Venom, Sea Vixen, Sea Hawk and Tornado. Also Mirages, Sukhoi Flankers, MiG 21, Saab Viggen. Also an Anti-Submarine version of the new Sea King (with both Radome variants for early and later versions).

New tool the 1/72 Spitfire IX

New tool of the 1/72 Bf 109G

New tool 1/72 Fiat G50

A 1/72 Macchi 200, only a very old revell kit and some very expensive resin short run kits of this one, it's crying out for a dogfight double with the new Beaufort!

Re release that marvellous 1/72 RAF Vehicle set,

While your at it now about 1/72 Luftwaffe vehicles?

I've said it before and I'll say it again  😉

In 1/72:

Hawker Tempest II and V

Arado Ar 196

Supermarine Walrus

and having just seen Midway and thinking it'd be nice to build a SBD Dauntless and discovering very few kits available in 1/72, so I suggest a SBD Dauntless

In 1/24

New tool Spitfire Mk IX (tooled in such a way as to enable Mk I and V in enusing years)

And why not a Vought Corsair F4U to keep the F6F Hellcat company?

In 1/350

HMS Queen Elizabeth/Prince of Wales

A NEW TOOL 1/72 NORTHROP F-5A !!! It is hard to find a 1/72 F-5A these days. The old tool Airfix F-5A in the red box is not available and different boxings of this kit and the old Hasegawa offering are the ones you can find from ebay but these kits by today's standard are crap kits. There's the simple but nice Matchbox kit which appear every now and then in ebay but pricey. The Esci kit which is the best F-5A kit in 1/72 scale even up to today is very hard to find and also expensive. It is about time that Airfix come up with a new tool F-5A in the standard of their new tool releases.

Just over a month ago, we have had the 2020 announcements. There's still some older Airfix QUICK BUILD kits that I want, but I still haven't purchased yet; Plus there are this year's kits that I will be getting as well, when they are released. I have enough to buy, excluding the products from the Hornby model railways brand! I have enough on my wanted list, so the last thing I want to do, is produce a new wishlist for 2021!  😆

Well it is already March, so I should get my oar in the water on wish lists for 2021.....

1/48th scale DHC-2 mk1 Beaver with wheels, wheel-skis and standard EDO floats (not the amphibious variety)

1/72nd scale F-86E with short chord slatted wings (slats should be separate to allow positioning in or out) with both beveled and flat windscreens

1/48th scale of above Sabre.

How about some good 1/24 scale cars?

nothing exotic, but how about Hillman imp, mk1 escort, capri, a cortina of some sorts .

with minor tooling changes at least 3 of those could be modified into other versions including race cars and estates.

PS a nice early GT40 would be good too.

I can see that 1/72 vehicles are a popular choice (for dioramas as well as individual models) so how about these:

Bedford RL, Volvo Snowcat, Humber Pig, Thunderbird/Bloodhound + handling aids, Alvis Salamander, Thornycroft Antar tank transporter, Airfield Control caravan, Mercedes UNIMOG Harrier tug.

Any ofthe above would look good in1/48 too.

I must say that I'm really pleased with the re-releases.  Still awaiting those from the catalogues.

Could I ask if there is a possibility of bringing back the following kits?

1/72nd scale.

F-27 Friendship in it's original Aer Lingus scheme.

DHC Beaver.  Original AAC colours.

McDonnell Banshee F2

F-80 Shooting Star.

Douglas Skyray.

OV-10A Bronco.

The Beaver was one of the kits that Airfix listed on their short lived attempt to do short runs on the basis of people voting on the website. It didn't get enough votes to make it viable, which might be clue why its not been released recently. The disappearance of the US jets is a mystery, they were all pretty decent in their day. The Bronco tooling was modified into the NOGS version, a bit of a dead as a kit subject considering the limited production of the real thing. I'd be surprised if the F-27 tooling is up for many more runs (if any), I bought a couple when they were last released in the early Hornby years and quality of the mouldings was not great. It would be nice to see the jets back.

Paul. I must have missed the on-line voting on the Airfix website. When was this done and how often does this happen?

I would likely buy a few DHC-2 Beaver kits if the old tool 1/72 was reintroduced. The real thing was very popular on floats in the spring, summer and fall and wheel skis in the winter when I was a kid. OPAS alone had 40 of them. Still see the odd one flying on floats.

I would also like to see the old tool Douglas F4D Skyray

I am working through some old Airfix Kits that have been layibg around for too long.  Just completed the Banshee, which is a good kit, though I had to source some new decals.  Likewise an F-80c.  Nice old classic, but the decals are just to yellow to use.  While looking through the stash I also found a rather nice old F-84F Thunderstreak.  I had removed the decals from this kit, as I was going to do a different version.  I have them in a photo album, but they are still a bit yellow.  I have placed these sheets in a south facing window, hoping to bleach them out.  In the meantime, I have bought new decal sheets.Last in the old kits saga, was a very old DC-3 that I was given at a model show a couple of years ago.  Again, very yellow and very brittle decals.  With the latter, I have been able to scan the sheet and transfer it onto some decal paper.  The Silver City decals are a fair match and went on perfectly.Following on from this, I have been looking for a couple more F-80c models.  In 1/72nd, this is not a regularly kitted model.  There is only the Airfix kit of this aircraft.  Emhar do a different version, and that's it.

I'm hoping that Airfix may look at re-releasing this kit, or better still, produce a replacement.  As the only game in town, and some super schemes, the kit should do well.  A re-run of the F-84F.  Another classic from the range.  Hoping to see these two reappear soon.
