Howbi
When you initially set up the TTS did you change any of the CVs as well as the address?

96RAF
Is it when given a particular address away from 03 or any address given.
Fishmanoz
Try changing CV150 from 0 to 1. Also, before and after ID change, check value of CV29. It should be 2. If not, come back and advise.

AceinOz
I had my new Hornby class 31 turn up today, and a class 31 TTS decoder. I installed the decoder and ran the loco in (using the default ‘3’ address) - sounded great, ran well. Left it for a few hours then tried to program a new address on my Select controller and the chip heated up to the point where it melted a section of the roof of the loco (not too bad thank goodness). I had put some tape loosely around the chip and stuck it to the inside of the roof of the loco to keep it out of the way. Anyway, the loco would run ok and the lights would work but no sound. Very disappointed as it sounded great, and I am annoyed at the damage to the loco - its small but I can’t unsee it. Not sure what happened to the chip in between running it in and programming the new address.
96RAF
The decoder overheated likely because it was wrapped in tape and the body damage occurred because there was direct contact. TTS decoders are known to get warm. However all is not lost as you can contact Hornby under the no-quibble warranty and ask for a replacement. AceinOz
I might have a go at hitting them up for a new decoder. I will just have to wear the damage to the loco - the damage is slight but I know its there (a small ‘bump’ in the roof). I wont be doing the tape thing again that’s for sure. AceinOz
I just checked the Hornby returns policy and it relates to products purchased off the Hornby website. I purchased the decoder on Amazon.
96RAF
Tell them you are having no joy with the retailer. They are pretty good about such things.
Brew Man
If it's within 30 days of purchase and it was sold by Amazon direct, (not a seller), they usually refund or replace no question.
BigNoj
Since I started wrapping my decoders in Kapton tape I have never had an issue.
Aussie Fred
That is interesting BigNoj, but wouldn't the sticky side make it difficult to take apart if needed. I have used insulating sleeves.
AceinOz
Noting the above discussion, does anyone have any advice on how or where to place the decoder inside the Class 31 - there is not much room. I saw one Youtube video where he placed the decoder under the PCB board.
96RAF
If you mean the all wheel drive 31 then that is a possibility. The RR model has bags of room as usual. It looks as if I just laid the decoder in a sleeve on top of the pcb in mine. The fan drive was removed and the fan rotor glued to the roof to make room for the twin ESU speakers. Note body is wrong way round.
AceinOz
96RAF - mine is the same (the latest release Class 31). I did the same thing with the fan etc. What is the sleeve made of and do you have overheatinf problems with the decoder?
RDS
I put my Decoders in Heat Shrink tubing, just shrunk down at the ends enough so that the Decoder cannot slide out. It can be removed if required, stops any shorts and allows the Decoder enough space so that it does not overheat. Don't use the type of Heat Shrink that contains an adhesive coating inside though. 96RAF
Ditto what RDS does, although this one has a bit of tape to keep it secure.
ColinB
I use flat clear heat shrink for all my TTS decoders to make a sleeve. I don't shrink it down, to allow air to pass over it.
96RAF
I do have this one though defies all the rules and still working fine.
