  1. The Airfix Club can be reached directly on 01843 233512 or by emailing newclubs@airfix.com
  2. Ratch is right. A tiny spot of superglue just enough to hold the part in place till the glue dries. Then place a drop of superglue on a flat surface - I use the tops from margerine boxes. Pick up a bit of superglue from that drop using a sharpened toothpick and apply it to the base of the PE part to ensure a good bond. If you apply too much superglue at once it takes a long time to set.
  3. Mettalics tend to lift with the masking tape. I usually give a light lacquer coat over the metallics before masking anything. It is important to use a low tack masking tape rather than ordinary "cellotape" since that is far to "sticky."
  4. She looks really good. You did a good job there.
  5. Interesting John. I'm not sure that the idea of superglue and modern media is still a thing now that a good number of years have gone by and we are more aware of their properties. I have models that I built 50 years ago and they are exactly as they were the day I built them. Many of my liners are younger ..... still over 30 years old and still in pristine condition. This one's been around for 33 years and nothing's fallen off yet!
  6. Atlantic models supply 1:600 decals for pennant numbers. Will save a lot of heartache!
  7. Grey primer allows you to see all the blemishes and hence you can fix them before you apply the colour coats. Black as a primer wouldn't do this. Grey is very easily covered by virtually all shades except maybe white.
  8. So if your wife doesn't take you to the nationals will it be a case of Goodbye Wife? 😉
  9. Hi John, sadly you are quite right in what you say. I've already told my children that most of my models, whilst priceless to me, are worth nothing when I'm gone. It is only my liner models that I would like to see donated to some museum or other. Who knows whether that will happen? I won't be around to find out.
  10. Vintage Modeller, I can understand your frustration. Heck, I was pretty cheesed off myself when I submitted photos for a competition (on a different website) and when it came to the on-line voting they forgot to list my model amongst the entries! But back to the matter at hand. I have sent your first post to our Airfix contact person and she will be taking it up with the powers that be. She assured me she is really sorry you ended up in this situation and sympathises with you. I know you've been chasing this for some time ....but we have only just now come to know about it. Please give her some time to look into the matter. Hopefully we'll get this matter resolved. Patrick
  11. It seems that Airfix have separated the red box from the Club Membership such that one choose whether or not one wants the box with the kit. It seems many model makers were not happy buying the membership and having to also get the kit since they either already had it or weren't interested in it. This will run till the end of this year. 12. I'm a bit of an Airfix "vintage kit" builder myself. Looking through the vintage kit releases I find I have almost all of them but when I see a kit I missed when I was young it gets me wanting to buy it! So yes, I look forward to these releases. Be warned - I may swoon when the Free Enterprise Ferry makes an appearance!!
  13. That is a difficult effect to achieve using a brush. In time you should consider investing in an airbrush. Some 40 years ago before I had an airbrush I tried to achieve something similar using the dry brushing technique. This was the 1960 Airfix 262. As you can see the result is not perfect. I also tried it on this wildcat. If you decide to give it a go be sure to practice on an old kit you have no intention of keeping.
  14. Richard ...... you posted your last submission 6 times! When you come to press "submit" please do it ONCE and wait. It takes a bit of time to load because of the pictures. If you press it over and over again you make multiple submissions, which we poor mods have to sort out! I must admit I've done it a couple of times myself ..........but I get away with it because I can delete them myself ;) Patrick
  15. Mine is years old and pretty badly messed up .... but it still does the job. It is A4 in size and Wifey bought me a new A3 sized one ...... haven't needed to start using that yet. I do try to avoid gluing or painting things on it on it. I use the backs of old large format calendars for that. They are usually printed on thicker paper and are just the job. I use the cutting mat principally for .....cutting on! Perhaps that is why it has lasted so long.
  16. Very interesting. Will b following this build.
  17. I've referred the issue to Hornby. They are aware of the problem and are working on it. I am informed that this should be resolved shortly.
  18. It seems that this weekend one can earn double points on purchases. This runs till midnight on Sunday the 1st October!
