  1. Rob, totally agree. Use Hornby. They will drop straight in, as like for like.
  2. Found where it is still on display, senior moment, but all other comments apply.
  3. well, all now disappeared. Hope Hornby bosses are happy with number of regulars they have upset this year. All these one applicant competition winners, on social media, will never be heard of again.
  4. Rob, not due till 10th jan. Just said to Heather over breakfast, At least Rob can have quiet xmas and new year, before the questions start. Wont let you down.
  5. Steve, yup, keep all my real mates on hand via email. Your turn will come.
  6. Rob, IT, Works. Many thanks. Now just have to find Controller. john
  7. Hi, finest way to plan layout, is to take some track, and just lay it, loosely. Then if you are happy, lay some more. Nothing to be gained by all this computer stuff. Model trains, are hands on. Many of us, prefer, trial and labour. You will enjoy it far more, Honest.
  8. Top at. Look at PC Speciialist. Super firm excellent service.
  9. Tis i , the old hand, who gave the advice, 3 years ago. It was good then, and still is today. There is No need to reduce the technical nature of the layout, other than to remember the weight of these old locos. If you want an incline, it must be based on 3 rail recommended levels, not modern track design. For perfect running, a Duette, is the way to go. Also , remember, that once you add coaches and trucks, also, much heavier than modern rolling stock, it becomes a weighty load to support. It is great, that people are still happy to run 3 rail. There is NO better sound, than this.
  10. Hi, Ray .,yes thanks . Have made contact.
  11. Top of the class. I knew your select, was a door stop.
  12. Senior moment time. After long absence turned on laptop, which set up RM fine, in every way, but no schematic, appeared. Usually i can drag it across with the mouse, but its not there. How do i recover it please.
  13. Was it in the same drawer as your Select, Fishy ?.
  14. Perhaps he also used to make ESU. Digikeijs, units, were fine. I would have no worries about them. Have a look on index of forum, for ESU, units. There were a lot of postings about them.
  15. i know very little about Yamorc, but did come to know ESU ones rather well, in that like many other posters, i found them very difficult to set up, so much so, that i discarded them. it may well be a thing of the past, but have others any experience of the Yamorc ones. would hate to be wise after the event. There were pages of posts about ESU ones, that only gained sales, when Hornby ones were out of stock, for many weeks.
  16. Hi, I have a working set. You will need to obtain some metal HD 3 rail track to make it work. Plastic mail bags can still be bought. All you would then need is 3 rail loco, buyable on eBay.You hang a mail bag on the hook, and door on coach ,opens to collect ,and drop it into container, the other side of your layout.
  17. i am not a beliver in switching couplings. Have many different types over the years. I prefer to allocate them to a specific loco, and change that coupling. Have many Dublo wagons with posters coupling, so pulled by HD adapted loco. That way, you only have to change one, and can add more s/H similar coaches, as necessary. Same with Bachmann. I have, Roco, Mehano, Bachmann Hornby Dublo, MTH, Triang, and Rivarossi, locos, so much easier to modify, 1/2 locos, to make up freight/ passenger sets. That way, you keep rolling stock/ wagons, original.
  18. Sanaguy, I am also a bit long in the tooth, but hope no one wants to scrap me. If it ain’t broke….
  19. Model Railway Forum, has a PM and Email facility. May suit you. Worth a look.
  20. callum, Ask RM support to hook up to your new computer, and install. they have an app which allows them to do it, remotely, while you watch.
  21. Yup agree, half amp, would not be enough. I have outlined solution.
  22. Going Spare, i was 12 then. I had 2 of their own controllers, but when they aged, my local club, put me on to H&M. I have just tried my Dutchess of Athol, on GM, then Duette, pulls away much quicker on Duette, and is in my view, more responsive, will slow run, and pull away , much better On the later HD, Bristol Castle, with Ringfield motor, its not so noticeable. Most of my 23 , 3 rail locos, have old motors. I have a Dodds, Magnifier, and have re magged, (or similar), 5 of these. It makes no difference. Could also be that these locos are so much heavier than modern ones.
  23. Going spare. Hi, I have been running 3 rail for 55 years, so am very aware of their motors. I am no electrical expert, so can’t give you a technical explanation, other than the fact that it is well documented, that HD 3 rail locos, due to their current draw on start up, need more grunt than modern controllers have. I have Gaugemaster multi controller, a Morley, and an H&M 2000. None of these compare with running, when using a Duette, or Clipper. No doubt Tony, or SOT, may be able to give you a technical answer, I can only speak from personal use.
