  1. Well Kevin, some of us quite enjoy the challenge of converting older locos to DCC and with successful results.........I never had to use a Sapphire decoder, there are suitable 6 & 8 pin alternatives........never had to spend hours with MM & solder........glad to hear you are happy with your analogue locos........ 😀.........HB
  2. @Gwdriver...........having said that, your post was quite informative and would benefit those that want to explore the full capabilities of the TTS decoder especially in trying to match the acceleration and deceleration as realistically as possible (assuming you have enough length of track)............HB
  3. @Gwdriver16...........I have to say I find your posts concerning setting up the TTS decoders extremely complicated.........I also use the Elite & have several TTS decoders (both steam & diesel) and I have only had to change CV150 to 1 to achieve smooth running........I am concerned that newbies to DCC and TTS could be put off by your apparent difficulties in just getting the locos to run acceptably.........maybe I've just been lucky but I have not found it necessary to fiddle on with other CVs........ 😀.........HB
  4. Why isn't this in the Hornby Collector Club section?..........Fortunately I have the Collector magazine so I have no need to watch this poor quality video..........HB
  5. There was one that Hornby produced in 2016...it was R3459 TTS for the class 2P 4-4-0 loco.........I have one powering a Hornby Southern T9 4-4-0 with a cube speaker, sounds great..........HB
  6. Yes, it's the same track.........HB Standard gauge track is 4' 8 1/2 " which when scaled @ 1:87 (HO) = 16.495mm ....16.5mm as produced..........same track is used for OO but is not to scale as rolling stock is at a scale of 1:76
  7. I'm sure Hornby would make the teak coaches look more realistic if it was practical and within budget.........HB
  8. Hhmmm, go on, you know you want to.......we've missed your wisdom and humour.......... 😆...........HB
  9. @RAF96...........probably to ensure greatest possible dispersion to avoid risk of ice forming on the rail head, wheels, motion etc in extreme weather..........HB
  10. @Rob...........that's a rather large sound box, what scale locos are you running???....... 😆 Have you actually got a Lidl in Moni?.........HB
  11. A SE&CR P class 0-6-0T..........HB /media/tinymce_upload/5de6739c0db874c43faec1cc7dc49022.jpg
  12. @Pete29........had a brain fade.........your 125 loco is the one without decoder.........do you run it from the Select controller?..........HB
  13. The loco must have a decoder in it if it was a DCC set with a Select controller........If you have a read of the Select manual there is a chapter on how to reverse the running direction..........HB
  14. @Pete29.........this can be corrected by changing the value of CV29 but only if you have a controller capable of such changes.......which controller do you have?.........HB
  15. This is it, Jimbo......./media/tinymce_upload/664d64caad83d3e41f42147dcbe9c25b.jpg As for offering an 0-6-0 for an additional charge, Hornby are not likely to enter into further admin and stock holding for such a low value model........HB
  16. @Foxee.........have a look at these, many sizes available......... http://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Shop.php?L1=Speakers .........HB
  17. @Country joe..........Assuming your street lights are connected in paralell....... You can't push 12volts into a 3volt LED without destroying it no matter what amperage the power supply is.........that's why you have to have a resistor on each LED.........so I'm LED to believe........ 🤔...........HB
  18. My local Bedfordshire Libraries search revealed 65 books under the heading 'Model Railways', included titles from Hornby, Freezer, Burkin, Booth & Ellis........it is so easy to find this information, Jacob.........HB
  19. How old do you want, these are Hornby Dublo era........ http://img.chem.ucl.ac.uk/dublo/catalog.htm .........HB
  20. We'll have to have our own 'registered name' in that case.........how about "Run-on Caps"(copyright HB).....other suggestions welcome........ 😆..........HB
  21. @aas..........re your question re: fitting a stay alive to a TTS decoder....... @Chrissaf........Chris, can you confirm this is correct?.........HB /media/tinymce_upload/1c591329a9a1f9e8b66ff43f1ab6a882.png
  22. @Derek........the Blue wire joins to the long lead.......the Black wire joins to the short lead which is near the pale blue band on the cap marked with dashes......heat shrink recommended to cover bare bits...... 😀......HB
  23. Derek123......just to add to Chris's post, this website has a comprehensive range of caps in stock and conveniently shows the dimensions of each value which will be significant in trying to fit into smaller locos..... https://www.technobotsonline.com/85-deg-c-electrolytic-radial-capacitors.html
  24. Thanks, Eric, duly noted......... 😳.........HB
  25. Here's one I made earlier.......the original cap on the decoder was only 470uF, pretty useless so I fitted a larger 2200uF instead........this works very well.........snag is that this cap is of a size that will not find adequate space in many 0-6-0 locos and it these smaller tanks that benefit most from the stay-alive........HB /media/tinymce_upload/fb3b532a6a79d79043c14e2869dd6008.JPG
