R9257/R9749 Spencer's: Why Does Hornby Spencer Have Black Driving Wheels?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know why the two Hornby Spencer's had black driving wheels? This incorrect. Spencer is supposed to have wheels the same colour of his bodywork. I just can't understand why Hornby painted them black. This is the only thing I don't like about the Hornby Spencer, but the rest of the model is perfect.

The only time Spencer was scene with black driving wheels is in 'Hero of the Rails' Nintendo DS and Nitendo Wii video game's and one scene in the 'King of the Railway' special, which are mistakes.

If somebody has any imput into this, then please post them below. Thanks.

@ChloeAmy, of course you can have an opinion but what the Forum does not need or want are personal comments aimed at other members. This is primarily a Model Railway forum and not a place to have an online slanging match with someone. If you just want to do that there are plenty of alternative sites for you.

Hi

In the real world the silver wheels would have turned black from oil, brake dust, coal dust, ash dust etc. and would take teams of cleaners hours to clean ofter each run. The 4 Silver  A4 Locos of the LNER all ended up with black wheels after starting out with silver grey ones as they were difficult to keep clean.

By the way who is Spencer he does not appear in any of the Original 24 Railway Stories which are based on real railway practices and situations.
