  1. I'm starting to get used to it but it could be so much better and easier to navigate. RMWEB is a great example of how to do it.
  2. Have you noticed that the 3 letters of HAL are all just one letter offset from IBM?
  3. There is an oddity with the Powercab. It treats address 3 and 03 as different addresses so try the different variations when programming.
  4. The powercab does not need any add ons to read and write CVs. There is an auto switch unit that can be added to avoid having to manually switch from the main track to the programming track but it is optional. It's like the Select. In fact I think the auto switch unit can be used with the Select. It's easy to change addresses with the Powercab, just read the manual. Sorry, can't access mine ATM. Edit for typo
  5. I might have a couple of things saved. I'll have a look through my archive.
  6. The Powercab only has very rudimentary overload protection; it shuts down and restarts continually until it either fails, or the overload is removed or power is disconnected.
  7. You can remove the coils (inductors aka chokes) and replace them with wire links.
  8. It has always been my policy to keep my responses short and to the point. If more explanation is needed the enquirer only has to ask.
  9. Express Passenger set. http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=434
  10. It has to be done by Hornby. Contact them to get a returns number before sending it in.
  11. Have you tried turning the volume down?
  12. Have the tender wheels been removed and if so, have they all been replaced the correct way round? Edit. Just a thought. The correct orientation of the tender wheels may not matter as they may both be insulated from the axles.
  13. Photos would definitely help but IMHO polystyrene isn't suitable as a baseboard material
  14. I think zimo offer a repair service for their decoders. May not be available in the UK since brexit.
  15. There are very few decoders that limit the motor supply to 12volts. Post amended
  16. https://www.hattons.co.uk/22889/hornby_r8246_sapphire_mini_decoder_with_0_5a_continuous_current_1_a_stall/stockdetail
  17. Possible obstruction in the point blades (piece of ballast for instance) causing the point not to fully operate and "bounce" back?
  18. Post 2 or 3 pictures of your decoder - someone will probably be able to identify it.
  19. Try this https://www.lendonsmodelshop.co.uk/pdf/Hornby%20Service%20Sheets/No.453B%20Class%20W1.pdf
  20. This may help https://www.lendonsmodelshop.co.uk/pdf/Hornby%20Maintenance%20Sheets/0-6-0%20Locos%20With%20Type%20M%20Motors.pdf
  21. I doubt that it will have been tested properly, it may have been touched to a checking device for maybe a second or so to see if the motor turns or possibly if there is current flowing. More expensive models may be inspected slightly more thoroughly.
