  1. Point clips are small springy pieces of metal that look almost identical to staples. See https://uk.hornby.com/products/dcc-track-turnout-clip-tt8035?_br_psugg_q=point+clips The way they are fitted to points is shown on page 28 of the Select user manual (possibly elsewhere too. 3. A good clean and oiling should help as old grease and oil can dry out

    WD40?

To repeat what I said on page 1 of this thread "As well as (possible) bad affects on plastic it dries out and becomes thick and gooey. Eventually it turns solid like a lacquer and locks mechanisms up solid." This is from personal experience. As an experiment put some on a small mirror, laid flat, and leave it for a few days and see what happens.
  5. @taunmarc88 PSU = Power Supply Unit.
  6. When you write 8 to CV8 it resets the decoder to default values but does not alter the value stored in CV8. The number stored in CV8 is the NMRA code for Hornby and it does not change CV7 is similar, it contains the manufacturers decoder version number PS. Not all decoders use CV8 = 8 to reset them.
  7. The blue dot is a GWR weight restriction indication. I do not know whether it's original from the factory or something an owner has applied. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Western_Railway_Power_and_Weight_Classification
  8. I've read of this happening a few times. Don't know why it happens though.
  9. Copydex is a type of rubber solution AFAIK. Totally different to PVA
  10. There is a problem with these multi-bit sets as they wont reach some of the screws that are in deep holes or obstructed by such things as bogie frames. You need long thin tools for these.
  11. That is what I wanted to make absolutely clear. You MUST be aware of whether it is an even or odd number in CV29 and the effect of just adding 1 to its existing value. Colin wasn't totally wrong (apologies) but he wasn't totally correct either. Added info. If you use the Select or Elite's built in "Reverse direction" facility there is no need to manually change CV29 for direction setting.
  12. I suspect that the loco does not have a decoder fitted. If it is described as DCC ready it needs to have a decoder installed.
  13. OK. So how do you know it has decoder fitted? Can you hear any noises from the loco?
  14. Have you programmed the loco with address 6? The loco will not respond to address 6 if you haven't programmed it first.
  15. They may look like copper pickups but should be phosphor bronze.
  16. I had the same problem when I was a youngster. I'm 70 now and still have the same problem, except I don't have any relatives that buy me any railway stuff.
  17. Shouldn't be any problem. Your existing controller may or may not be suitable if you are running dc (analogue)
  18. @leer76 Did you remember to run the install as administrator?
  19. The nearest thing to a remote ATM is a Hornby Select.
  20. Johnson Klear floor polish used to be quite good for this sort of thing. Applied neat it could smooth out the cloudiness. The formula is different now, so may not work as well as it did.
  21. You have probably burnt it out if you have allowed power to connect to the yellow wires.
  22. Try here https://uk.hornby.com/community/forum/100-years-of-flying-scotsman-340154#post-340809
  23. You could try resetting the Select. It sometimes cures some very strange problems.
  24. You should not use address 3 at all as this is the default address for all new decoders. You should be able to give any of the decoders new addresses. If your Select is running the latest firmware, v1.6 or v2.0, you can reset the decoders by writing the value 8 to CV8.
