  1. Oh well, you could have just joined in with the banter, a sense of humour goes a long way.........HB
  2. Colin you must be doing something radically wrong in handling your model railway. In the 10 years I have been contributing to this Forum you are outstanding in being the numero uno Decoder killer either through carelessness or lack of knowledge of the products. You do tend to make assumtions and speculate quite a lot. It is more helpful to the Forum if you would just stick to commenting on factual information. Maybe you should take up a less stressful hobby like knitting or spoon whittling 😆........HB p.s.........just saying in a friendly manner, please don't take the wrong way.
  3. I would advise that folk pay heed to the manufacturer's advice concerning using an approved controller rather than your unhelpful comment that "PWM should be ok". Bachmann and Zimo are covering the warranty, not you. That Zimo decoder is £99..........HB
  4. As a matter of interest.........the Sound decoder fitted to the Class 158 is by Zimo. And further to recent discussion concerning types of DC controller Bachmann advise........ "Please note: If this model is to be controlled with an analogue (DC) output controller Bachmann Europe PLC recommend the use of a controller with a smoothed output. If you intend to use a feedback type controller, or one with PWM (pulse width modulation) please consult the controller manufacturer before using it with this model." Maybe Leven needs to take this into consideration. HB
  5. @ Leven........I emailed your question to Bachmann and got a reply in 46 minutes and I quote....... ..."Running on DC.Your model will operate on DC powered track producing basic prime mover sounds only that will vary according to it’s use, directional lights and passenger compartment lights. If sufficient voltage is available the leading cab lights will illuminate when stationary." "All Bachmann Branchline SOUND FITTED models will produce normal running sounds and any automated or randomised sounds when power is applied. There are also a number of lighting features available to Analogue users when operating the Class 158." HB
  6. @Leven, welcome to the Forum.........DC is DC whether using Hornby, Peco or Bachmann track and controllers........maybe you would get a more accurate response from your dealer or Bachmann direct.........there is a Bachmann Forum you can join.........HB
  7. @Chris.......the point of using the Strath adaptor is where there is insufficient height above the pcb to plug in the other convertor with the 8 pin plug on top as is the case with many diesels......HB
  8. A very good 21 pin breakout board is available here ...... it has speaker connections if required......HB
  9. Is the motor like this.......... /media/tinymce_upload/1316fac03a2a0bd9bd8fd7b2055d20ba.pngHB
  10. Service sheet 256B may be of assistance......downloadable from the Help & Advice pull down menu......HB
  11. @Ericm0hff...........Hi Eric, good to see you back here. . HB
  12. @PJBooyse.........you can download the Service Sheet 267c for this model under the Help & Advice column.........HB
  13. You will need to check the precise dimensions of the board as so much is measured in metric these days.......so what looks like an 8' x 4' board is actually 2400mm x 1200mm......this width is insufficient for fitting 4th radius track without being periously close to the edge.........HB

    Loco Addresses

    Thanks for the feedback...HB
  15. Locos produced specifically for inclusion in a train set do not have R numbers........although they use the same chassis as many other models there are cosmetic differences and different running numbers compared to individually boxed locos...........HB
  16. Sounds like dirty track to me, give the track and the loco wheels a good clean with I.P.A (isopropyl-alcohol)........easily found on 'net.........HB
  17. Are you programming with the loco on the layout or on a seperate length of track?........HB
  18. @sg43..........to get back to your original problem running the TTS decoder.........I would suggest that you change CV150 by calling it up on your Select (V2.0) and Writing a value of 1........this will change an algorithym and vastly improve the loco's smooth running..........this tweak has been recommended 100's of times now..........HB
  19. I would suggest that in certain locos the current demand increases as the motor warms up after 2 or 3 laps of your layout and consequently starves the sound circuit in the TTS decoder (especially in older models). This would account as to why the decoder works perfectly in the tester or in a different loco. So basically the TTS decoder is lacking in it's power capacity........HB

    Loco Addresses

@Chrissaf........"HB's reply logic is flawed. For some reason he forgot that the TT motor is connected to the output of the decoder, and that the TT motor is providing a 'load' on the decoder." I am fully aware of that, Chris, but it didn't work when the OP tried re-addressing but the TT decoder did address when the loco was on the track..........my memory hasn't depleted yet even having just celebrated my 79th birthday........ 😆..........HB
  21. Definitely bung a decoder in and run it........you will then enjoy the memories of running your first set as a child...... 😆.........HB

    DCC sound decoders

I use the Soundtraxx Econami sound decoders rated at 1 Amp, cost £75 plus a speaker.......slightly larger than the TTS but with enhanced features such as an adjustable chuff rate, 6 functions, function mapping........HB
  23. Fidollo ... malheureusement vous ne pouvez pas modifier l'attribution des numéros de fonction.........HB
