  1. You can get the neo magnets here...... http://www.hornby-railway-trains.co.uk/index.html ....I fitted one of these to my old Dublo 2-6-4T and the performance is now like new.........HB
  2. Hi Rob, the TCRT5000 sensor is 4 pin and appeared to match the LD hardware spec at the time.
  3. @idlemarvel Came across a couple of snips I saved 6 years ago which may be of some interest in your quest for LD information........HB

    DCC to DC

This is one solution using copper speaker cable. Join pins 1 & 8 and pins 4 & 5

    DCC to DC

That is incorrect, a value of 1 only changes direction. New decoders usually have CV29 set to 6.......2 for 128 speed steps plus 4 for DC running.......HB
  6. A member on the Triang Society Facebook site showed this layout glued to a baseboard of 1.87m x 1.0m........HB
  7. @Stephen.........with most decoders you can download the User Manual which will usually show you the default values for the most common CVs. Then if your Select controller is the latest version 1.6 (or 2.0 if brand new) you can reset the decoder to it's default values; compare to the Manual to get the information required.........HB
  8. When you initially set up the TTS did you change any of the CVs as well as the address?
  9. Just use two R610 short pieces joined to the Peco ST250 for an almost perfect fit.
  10. The screw holding the drawbar on the tender may need tightening to hold it horizontally, it can be tight but still free to swivel.
  11. Have you fitted DCC decoders to your locos? The whirring noise is a typical indicator that there is no decoder present, best avoided as the motor will soon burn out.
  12. The version of your Select is indicated by the first number shown on the screen at start-up. The latest version is 16 or 20 if it is a brand new model. Have you tried turning on the Select before placing the loco on the track, just to check if there is a short in your trackage rather than in the loco............HB
  13. @Stephen.........the Q6 is a 2 cylinder loco so just look up other TTS decoders nominated to other 2 cylinder locos and you have a choice of the P2 or the 9F (both in stock at Hornby) or the Black 5 (not in stock at Hornby)..........HB. Edit......not P2 but J36 is 2 cylinder as G.S. points out.
  14. @Stephen.....you can ignore reference to "functions" as this loco does not have a circuit board with wiring for lights so only 4 pins are used, 2 for the pickups & 2 for the motor.
  15. @Stephen.........the class number refers to the loco not the decoder therefore if you buy a Class 08 diesel shunter then you would look for the TTS decoder for that model......similarly if you buy the Class A4 Mallard steam loco then you would select the TTS with that label.
  16. Simply remove the existing decoder that you fitted previously and replace with the TTS decoder. If this is in the tender there may already be a dedicated space for the round speaker that comes attached to the TTS. If not then you may have to discard the round speaker and replace with a "sugar cube" type rectangular speaker of a size that fits the space available. But as 96 RAF says it would help if we knew the Rxxx number from the loco or Set.........HB
  17. Thanks Chris, I was unsure whether there was any power consumed by the power pack in reducing the voltage down to 12v to the controller.........HB
  18. My calculation goes like this..........Average loco at medium speed consumes about 250 milliamps. @230 volts supply this equals 58 watts. If your electricity is priced at 16 pence per Kwh then your running cost will be 0.928 pence per hour. Maybe someone could check and confirm these figures. thinking_face.........HB
  19. Hornby do not make a Next18 decoder so if you wanted to use a Hornby 8 pin R8249 basic decoder then you would have to carefully remove the Next18 circuit board from your loco (noting each of the 4 wires connected to Pick-ups and motor) and either solder these wires directly to the new decoder or, preferably, solder in an 8 pin socket. If your Bachmann loco has lighting then it gets more complicated.........HB
  20. I use Firefox and am 'remembered' and automatically logged in every day .........HB
  21. @RDS........."Could you please select the 'My profile' tab in your Dashboard on the Forum" On my PC that procedure doesn't work; I have to select the 'Community' box after picking the 'My Dashboard' tab which then opens to the 'My Profile' section........HB
  22. @JS84Z..........to find the page click 'My Dashboard' in the top banner, then pick 'Community' then under 'My Profile' you will find the options for Profile picture and Nickname..........HB
  23. I would suggest you purchase a model railway magazine in which you will find several dealers willing to give a quotation to purchase your stuff.
  24. This is the original Hornby description of their proposed LD system.........HB
  25. @Al......are you sure you mean 'bit of spare' 'cos in my teenage years in the 1950s that expression did not refer to money. blush Maybe a 'bit to spare' is more appropriate grinning.......HB
