  1. Colin, is it really necessary to make such a spurious comment apart from the fact that it is untrue.........HB
  2. I can only echo the sentiments of fellow contributors, a great loss to the Forum and also on a personal level having had electronics advice on many occasions over the past twelve years. R.I.P Chris.
  3. I experienced this a few months ago but it was soon corrected. It's just a hiccup in the hornbyverse 🤔
  4. @Deem, The packs of X9084 I have purchased have not been pre-wired as shown on Hornby's parts page so the photo you posted of a pre-wired set is very misleading and obviously causing misunderstanding in this discussion.

    Fried Decoder?

Just to be sure, did you wire Orange and Gray to the motor then Red and Black to the pick-ups? Also did you fully isolate the remaining wires.?
  6. @Chris-k.......I have just tested my Bachmann 'Evening Star' loco fitted with a Lais 8pin decoder using the Select v1.6 and it runs perfectly so be confident that your's will be fine.
  7. The existing 4 pin socket needs to be removed and replaced by soldering the 2 track wires and 2 motor wires to the relevant pins on an 8 pin socket. A sugar cube type speaker can be stuck with double sided pad to the back of the loco's radiator. A photo of my solution fitting the TTS to an 08 loco will be posted when approved.........HB
  8. @John........Welcome to the Forum. The instruction manual for the DCC93 decoder is here....... https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/magento/media/downloads/Ruby_Instructions.pdf You could try different values for acceleration and deceleration in CVs 03 & 04
  9. It needs to be pointed out that Hornby made it quite clear that they do not want a "chat room" type of Forum by removing our "Off Topic" forum. That changed the Forum usage dramatically as we could no longer let topics drift off to other comments involving cars, planes, holidays etc and a bit of banter. So there is good reason why this Forum is now just for the purpose of directly answering member's queries in a business like fashion. Accusations of curtness and lack of patience is ridiculous when the amount of knowledge displayed in some lengthy replies and research undertaken to get the OP's a satisfactory solution is obvious. So those of you who are just here to complain are irritating and spoiling the Forum which can get along successfully without you........HB
  10. To balance the adverse views and opinions littering this Forum I have to say I have not experienced any quality issues at all with any of the Hornby locos I have purchased recently. I am impressed by the level of detail and quality of finish. They have all been fitted with various makes of decoder including TTS and all run faultlessly via an Elite controller. Surely, it can't just be my good luck all the time?
  11. Welcome to the Forum, Ron.........To remove the body, first remove the front pony truck. This will then expose the main retaining screw. Lift the body up at the front and disengage from a lug at the rear.
  12. Which decoder are you using?......What is wrong with the default values, I rarely find it necessary to change any of those from default on any make of decoder other than CV29.
  13. Surely you only need a 1 gang 2 metre mains extension lead.
  14. @Will Hay.......you are missing the point, as you well know 00 is scaled at 1:76 and H0 is scaled to 1:87. It is just the track width that is incorrect for 00.
  15. My first job in 1959 in the cashiers dept of Legal & General (Fleet St) paid a salary of £250 p.a. = to £4.81 p.w. Tube fare from Finchley Central and lunches didn't leave much over for a social life.
  16. If it's manufactured to a scale then it is a 'model', if not to scale then it's a 'toy'....thinking_face
  17. The obvious difference is the running numbers.......370001 & 370002 in the 7 car sets and 370003 & 370004 in the 5 car sets.
  18. It's that "waggle" space that allows locos to get round curves, especially the 0-6-0s on 1st radius curves.
  19. Hornby's warehouse and distribution centre is located at the Lakeside Business Park, Hersden which is run by DS Logistics. Repairs are also carried out at this address by Hornby technicians as far as I am aware having had telephone conversations with them concerning a repair to my Select 4 yrs ago.
  20. Well there's nothing like looking forward with excitement and enthusiasm........worried
  21. We can't tell you Chris; it's very hush hush........sunglasses
  22. @Fritham Jct..........If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you can type your reply post in the Reply Box and hit the green button.
  23. Never had that problem JJ, I have always managed to buy the loco I want on it's own in it's own box. But I do admit I did once buy the Flying Scotsman set for £99 as I wanted the loco and coaches while the track and controller went to my grandson.
  24. @ColinB......those are the power Mosfets on the track output, the heatsink would normally cover them. In my case, there was insufficient heatsink paste applied after replacement and they eventuallly overheated to the obvious result......HB ps........I can still use this Elite for programming.
