Rallymatt
It’s been mighty breezy oooppp North this weekend so I worked on a little project go create a Gantry Signal Box for St James’ Quay. Just like on the real railway a shortage of space meant the answer was going up and it would also have good sighting across the quayside. I found a cheap gantry crane kit online, got another of the lovely In The Green wood Laser GNR signal boxes, some strips of profile and raided the scrap box. A mash up of bits and we have a Gantry Signal Box. I’m hoping the new ‘Green Wash’ will settle down a bit as it’s still very shiny not like the Black wash I usually use, spectacle related purchase error. There is something about trains going under these types of structures that adds the industrial feel I wanted for the docks and a contrast to the open countryside on main section. 9
Rallymatt
The Big April update, grotty weather has meant loads of High Fell Action. Guaranteed no box opening, no reviews, no speculation, just good old railway modelling and some trains running (if you survive that far) Grab the pop corn and beverage of choice the enjoy. 😁 https://youtu.be/y_LSBdDvk80?si=KhO5gZoJAxwWNxj_
taunmarc88
Looking great as always. The farm and church area looks fantastic in the background of the station area.

Too Tall
Excellent video as usual. Loving the farm and church area, it looks great. It took a few seconds for the penny to drop with the factory names ! Edited April 12 by Too Tall

Rallymatt
It seems Thunberg PetroChemicals’ thirst for Hydrocarbons has reached new heights! A pipe direct from the ESSO facility on St James’ Quay has been installed via and over the line gantry.

Skelton Junction
B&W please next time and Pathe news style ‘progress’ music. Maybe with some dialogue by a crusty ex public school boy, the like of which Paul Whitehouse excels.

Rallymatt Posted Saturday at 14:32 Author Share Posted Saturday at 14:32 Recent Club Magazine reminded me of job that I have been meaning to do for a while. A light weathering job on the fabulous TTA Tankers 😀

Rallymatt Posted Saturday at 18:13 Author Share Posted Saturday at 18:13 10 done and 4 left to go, I like to leave a break in between doing them so they all look different. It’s all easy stuff but would people like a video on how I do it, very similar to the way it’s done in club magazine and no airbrush or expensive bits needed and very simple skills 😁

Chris98 Posted Sunday at 09:11 Share Posted Sunday at 09:11 I have done that much ballasting now it's become easy. It wasn't when I first did some. Like every thing really the more you do the better you get at it 😀 Like retaining walls 🤮

Ballasting is one of the jobs that I don't mind doing, I enjoy laying the track, wiring and ballasting. Its when it comes to doing the main scenery that I tend to get bored and want to start again lol... 🙂
Paul M Posted Sunday at 21:44 Share Posted Sunday at 21:44 It was sticking the backscene up I didn't like. Enjoyed the rest.
Rallymatt Posted Sunday at 21:53 Author Share Posted Sunday at 21:53 Don’t get me on backscene sticking! All the ‘special glues’ are absolutely awful! The paper is so thin and the glues so water laden it’s a nightmare of a job
Too Tall Posted Monday at 20:04 Share Posted Monday at 20:04 I used self adhesive ones, as long as the backing board is properly sealed they stick well. In fact the ones that were behind my ex slot car track, may well be repurposed for the shed layout, as they are still looking good after 5 years. I.D. backscenes they were IIRC, not cheap but the high quality ones really do last well.
