As we're on the big old Bentley, here's mine from about 4 years ago.

I did go potty with a few extra details such as fuel tank stone guards and real fabric body and hood.

I also made a mesh rad grille and cord-bound the springs.

I keep contemplating making some 'proper' wire wheels for it - maybe one day.

Roy.

As a matter of interest, did anyone ever build the motorised option, and did it work? I never built it but one of my father's colleagues did who gave it to me. it was a massive thing and even then I wondered how such a small electric motor - presumably the same one as powered the 1/24 aircraft propellers - could move such a huge and heavy car kit with all that friction etc.

Funny how this question has come up again.

Very nice Roy!

If you are interested there was an article in Scale Models way back in the 70's that explained how you could go about building wire wheels.  I might be able to track it down if you are interested.

I'm in the process of moving house ..... so most of my stuff is now in boxes.  My Magazine collection hasn't been packed yet ........

I've read that in these days Bentley will re-produce 12 examples of the Bentley 4,5 ltr Blower of 1929 (perhaps because of the 90th anniversary?). Could this be a chance of a reissue of the Airfix model in 1/12 scale?

Oh, no. Sorry, I forgot: No cars at all!

Just pre-ordered the Bently - I remember being into Airfix as a kid and my father made the original 1:12th Bentley. That one has sadly gone and I want to rebuild it as a memory to my late father. I've built models many years ago and have taken inspiration from numerous photos I have seen and also if anyone watches/follows Adam Savage (yes he of Mythbusters fame) on the tested.com website, well he'd inspired me to get back into modelling and I love watching others online weathering models. So my plan is when the kit arrives is to be inspired by as many fellow builders and build this kit but not as a polished version but as a well used and raced version. When we are out of the lock down I'd like head on down to Beaulieu and take 100's og photos of the Bently they have there with a view of creating as close as possible that version of the blower Bentley. It won't be museum quality but I'm certainly going to make it special as well as my modeling skills will allow me to and will document it. I'm thinking of maybe documenting the build on YouTube, what to people think?

There is a major Bentley restorer in Watford (they did the single seater). It may be worth giving them a ring to see if they have anything in at the moment, and whether you could visit? It's a lot closer that Beaulieu! (I know, because I went to the museum from West Sussex. 2 1/2 hours!)

The 1/12 1930 Blower bentley is due to be re released winter 2020-21 does

anyone know if moulds have been upgraded or changed from the older versions.

The site does not say "retooled" like the other new releases.

The early ones were pretty good but got bad as the mould deteriarated towards

the end with lots of flash and less plating. what will the new one be.

Hi All

Just joined - got my hands on a 1/12th Bentley kit ready for autumn/winter and/or lockdown.

Am looking to buy the necessary paints/ brushes/adhesives etc to build the kit - any advice on where to source them would like to use correct period product if available

I see there is an electric motor option (previously discussed on here) and wondered if anyone had found a suitable replacement motor as my kit does not have one included.

Thanks for any advice - no doubt will be on here again once I get started

I see there is an electric motor option (previously discussed on here) and wondered if anyone had found a suitable replacement motor as my kit does not have one included.

Thanks for any advice - no doubt will be on here again once I get started

1. just about any regular 1.5 to 3v electric motor will fit. The very old Airfix motor had side thingies on them and they helped hold the motor in place, as well as helping it to run, Go to a Poundland shop and buy a small battery operated hand sized fan, for £1. Take it apart and you get an electric motor, a switch and a battery compartment

2. For paints, go to Halfords and get British Racing Green for a real car, in a spray can. But Humbrol does BRG as no 239 in the paints range, in enamel and acrylic. Brush this or use in an airbrush for finer control spray painting. By the way. British Racing Green was not just one shade of green, but just about any dark green will be ok.

I can't remember where, but the actual car Airfix worked from (and include registration plates for) is in a UK museum. Humbrol "Brunswick Green" is about right for the metal areas on it (not the body). Most of the castings are some sort of silver or aluminium shade, but I have at least 8 different tins/bottles of these.

Hello Moderators,

Like so many, I too built this kit when I was a young teenager.

Now nearly 40 (yes, four zero) years later and Airfix are re-releasing this great kit and I for one have pre-ordered it

Problem is that it was pre-ordered back in April, over 8 months ago.

Do you guys have any other information other than "winter 2020/2021"?

Thanks in advance,

Steve
