Entire Range of Bassett-Lowke in Outlet Store

Recommended Posts

As mentioned in the thread title, the entire range of Bassett-Lowke has been moved to outlet. This is an interesting move on Hornby's part. I would not be surprised if this signals the end of the Bassett-Lowke brand. That or a relaunch is imminent, but I find that doubtful. There has been no new information

To opine a little... I admire the aim of expanding the appeal of model railways, but I am unconvinced that ventures like this are the way. By contrast, TT:120 and HM7000 seem like the far-superior method of growing the company. I'm planning my first layout because of those two wonderful new product ranges. They hooked in this guy in his mid-twenties. Ease of use, affordability, and compact size make these Hornby ranges incredibly attractive.

Moderators, apologies if this has already been noted.

There'll be people selling 1.1L Ford Escorts laughing here!!

A good one is never less than a 5-figure sum now!

Mexico? 30k is normal!

Never had anything against an Escort growing up, but never considered them 'special' at the time.

These weird, recent Bassett-Lowke models interest me much less than an ordinary 'Essie' did in the day, but as you say, stranger things ...

Well I got ordered 1 Loco (The BL2001 Leander - Steampunk Steam Locomotive) & 2 rolling stock (BL4001 Thermopile Impulsion Tea Coach & BL6002 Hatter Milliner Wagon) all for £6:18!!! & how Did I managed that - Well the Loco was £43.00 reduced to £22.00, the Wagon was £19.99 reduced to £10.99 & the Carriage was £20.99 reduced to £11.99. Then I had £38.25 worth of Hobbies point to use, also I had a 10 % discount code to use aswell.

I thought I had done quite well there!!! 🙂🚂

I have seen them advertised in some odd places, but didn't take much notice of them - are they a going concern or just static. I suppose they could present as a conversation piece, and if so the price is right, better bargain as a conversation piece than that monstrosity from Bradford Exchange that I nearly got conned into.

What is the purpose/usefulness in telling someone that you don’t value a purchase they have made? (Genuine question - I really don’t understand) **

Hornby (and other manufacturers) make a range of products, of which I only have interest in a few particular items. Obviously I won’t consider spending even a penny on anything that I have no interest in. However I certainly don’t expect manufacturers to only produce items that interest me, (completely unprofitable for them & unaffordable for me) so naturally I don’t begrudge anyone else purchasing items that interest them.

** Edit - I can see 1 instance when this could be useful, if a friend/family member asked me directly if I liked something - then I would obviously be honest & say that I was unable to appreciate it. But even then, if they appreciated it - I certainly wouldn’t begrudge them that!

Thank you LT&SR_NSE! That is very well put. I do not like everything in the Hornby range but I can certainly understand if someone likes a model I do not. The world certainly does NOT revolve around my preferences.

A perfect example is modern era. Anything diesel or electric holds less than zero interest for me. But are there enthusiasts? Yes sir, there are. I respect that and wish them all the best.

Hi JJ. I hope you enjoy your Bassett Lowke models and I do look forward to your review of them! Have fun JJ!!

Thank you Bee - i think I'll be ok with that 'Bump' - Only a few Loco slightly touch it as they go past - Nothing goes fast on my Test Track as it is only a short piece of Track!!! Yep as I said in my vid - the top half is die cast!!! 🚂
