Model Railway - What's your latest acquisition?

Recommended Posts

My latest purchase from ebay, A Flying Scotsman The Collector Limited Edition of 500. Very nice running loco and only thing is missing, inner sleeve which hold the loco in the box, will try to find one so I can keep this safely. 20240616_185643.thumb.jpg.f5f526daeed8b854f81e56403630b9c3.jpg20240616_185646.thumb.jpg.cbb1d4338683036a3c1610ec9bb191e8.jpg20240616_185710.thumb.jpg.d0128e5f8534fd403e184928df618ee5.jpg

Just received my Hornby dongle from the UK - 6 days after ordering it  through Amazon, cheaper price than local in Oz and no extra postage, meanwhile my castle ruin from Sydney took 11 days to come from Sydney, just 1100 km away. Australia post are useless here.

I really must leave Ebay alone for a while, but at £25 I couldn't leave it! I need the Lima HO coaches to go with my Trix Scotsman. I'll change the wheels and couplings and a repaint is on the cards. The whole set doesn't look like its been used much since the Christmas of 76 or there abouts. The 33 runs great and once it gets some oil I reckon it will be even smoother. Lola not included with purchase! 😎

I have collected a few Lima HO coaches over the last couple of weeks and must say they are not that bad. OK, there is an odd mould line along the side which I will have to see how much effort is involved in its removal. I have already replaced the wheels on a number of my coaches to metal wheels of a slightly smaller diameter and along side my 66s and A3 they don't look too bad.

I know the Mk1s ride too high and I'm still undecided about what I do about that. The Mk2s are better but still not quite right. It is not fair to compare them against state of the art models from this year - the Scottie, and around 10 years ago for the ESU 66.

If only TT120 had been launched 30yrs ago. I could have taken out my scale/gauge frustration so much easier. 😎

I remember getting one of those Lima 33's when they first came out.

I thought mine was that strange 'Thomas the Tank Engine' blue, not Rail Blue, but the running number is familiar - cost me less than £5 from Beatties, Liverpool.

I seem to remember it was pretty fast!!

Just received a Stanier 4P/MT, R2730 Yesterday. Absolutely mint condition and a snit at £71. Have just fitted an 8 pin TXS decoder loaded with the 4F profile, it being the nearest I could see on the list. Runs and sounds fantastic.

Knowing how keen Bee's interests in the L&MR are, his order was probably much closer to the top of the despatch list than yours?  Are all international orders fulfilled from the UK or do any get sent direct from China so the coaches' journey to the USA may have started 6 weeks earlier?

Shipper takes possession in Paddock Wood, UK

Package took a side trip to Koeln, Germany

Arrived in USA, delivered to my home.

Total time of journey? 17 hours, 21 minutes, ignoring the 5 hour time difference.  Add that in, still a respectable 22 hours 21 minutes

I've often wondered if pre-orders are fulfilled in the order taken by Hornby.

I placed my order for R40438 nearly immediately upon announcement.  I believe the proper word would be 'pounced'.

So if I had a lower order number than LT&SR_NSE, would my order be filled first?

Logic would suggest 'first come, first served' would be the principle just in case there turns out to be a shortfall not discovered until latecomers had had their orders fulfilled leaving earlier orders incapable of being fulfilled - but it is Hornby we are talking about.......

It had a stopover in Hawaii for a short sunbake on the beach and now is in Sydney. Unfortunately, now it may be finishing its travel by Australian Post, which means at least a week before I get it.

When I have forwarded Hornby stuff to Oz it when direct Royal Mail then Oz Post. The blocker was Heathrow International Distribution Centre where at worst it sat for nearly 2 weeks pretending to have left the country, when in fact it was over the 'chinese wall' awaiting a flight out. Best time was a week UK door to Oz door.

Parcels to-fro Canada however are another thing. I have had them routed Canada-US-Dubai-UK. For whatever reason they always pass thru' US who insist on inspecting the contents even tho' the destination is not US. Again transit time can be anything from 3 days to 2 weeks.

R60100 GWR Loriot - from eBay in ‘As New’ condition for less than 1/3 RRP.

Have checked it over & description was accurate - it’s immaculate & in perfect working order.

Whether previously an unwanted gift or remorseful purchase etc. its current owner is completely delighted! 😍

The R40438 Booth Carriage is now listed as "out of stock" !  It looks like it sold out on pre-order, as we just had notice of it coming into stock days ago.

For those who got one or more, like @LTSR_NSE, you did not miss out!

For those who sat on the fence?  Better scoop one up from your favorite model shop, and soon.

Wow ... I can't believe a wagon is that much RRP, although prices do seem to be on the up, nice find for 1/3rd the price LTSR_NSE !

Three reasons for the RRP:
• Unusually (for modern Hornby wagons at least) this model is almost completely made of metal.

• In real life there were only 2 wagons of this design made - therefore prototypical modellers will not be purchasing long rakes!

• The wagon’s particular claim to fame was appearing in a film (with Lion) that Hornby don’t have a licence for - so it appears to have been produced in direct duplication of a competitor.

The above all suggest a relatively small production run for collectors & magpie’s who like quirky/unusual models.  This magpie was certainly interested - at the right price! 😉

I've been looking at the Bachmann 56xx 0-6-2 for some time.

One of our colleague's (Deem I think?) recently purchased one.

Bit the bullet and bought one for a reasonable price - slightly older model, early logo, BR, Black.

Due probably by Tuesday.

Al.
