Many years ago I used the track with damp ballast and had lots of intermittent shorts until I saw the error of my ways. Chris I was wondering how the power wires were connected. If power connectors are used they may have shorted.
Could you not just add pickups to the bogie? DCC concepts https://www.dccconcepts.com/product/pickup-wiper-12-pack/ and DCC supplies https://www.dccsupplies.com/search/results/?search=Pickups do lots that can easily be adapted.
Don't think so Jj, not any good to repair the clear window. Clear acetate sheet can be bought from hobby shops or on line. It can also be found on different types of packaging.
That's a charity shop price Jacob. If it was worth more it wouldnt have been given to the shop. The owner was happy to give it away. I can guarantee that the Hornby book we have been discussing will appear for a pound or less in the next couple of years.
The Xurons are fantastic but make sure you use them the correct way round, and don't be tempted to cut wire, no matter how thick, it will ruin them. Ihave a damaged set to prove it.
I realised that. What I meant was once you had joined the track it would be obvious to slide the sleepers back under. You asked if anybody on here had used flexi which is why I mentioned the 90%. Take a look at this if you have bever used it before. https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/laying-flexible-track---tips-for-the-unwary/?p=1/
I would imagine 90% of us have used flexi. Once it is joined you remove the chairs from the previously removed sleepers and slide them back under the rails, obvious really.
Interestingly the number 20738 quoted is a part number for plate under a Wrenn A4. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WRENN-model-railway-pick-up-plate-cover-20738-for-CITY-A4-and-2-6-4-Tank-locos/401722080456
