  1. As suggested already, I would search eBay, model railway exhibtions and / or toy fairs for the trains you want. However, being that the Hornby 2020 product range is going to be announced on Monday 06/01/2020, which is very soon, I suggest waiting until then, before looking for older used models. You will never know what that might include, until that day!ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I don't think the Airfix QUICK BUILD sets / kits are designed to a particular scale. The bricks are to the same scale to LEGO bricks, so depending on the parts used depends on the scale really.

One more photo request from myself; Is there a possabiltiy you post an image of the two Spencer's faces, side-by-side? Thank you in advanced.

  4. To be honest, I would like to see Hornby release a Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST. Billy and Charlie from Thomas & Friends TV series, are this class and it's a pitty it never entered the Hornby RailRoad range, as a low detail model, then Hornby could have released one, the other or both! Now the license has gone, there's no point even dreaming!ย  ๐Ÿค”ย  ๐Ÿ˜ขย  ๐Ÿ˜†ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  ๐Ÿ˜€

R9749 Spencer (Limited Production) is my favourite out of the two, due to the more prominent black boiler handrails, even though they are incorrect in that colour.

    ย

Between the two colours, I prefer the 2012 Spencer, but both colours are inoorect, as Spencer is actually sliver. Could you imagine Hornby releasing a locomotive painted sliver?! It would be a terrible colour and model!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†

    ย

In fact. one does not need to imagine what a sliver Hornby locomotive would look, as we there's an image of a sliver locomotive; Hornby Spencer's prototype, used for both the 2008 and 2012 releases. I will post the prototype image below in another post, but I should think it will be a few days now, before the image will get approved by the adminstrator.

    ย

It's a shame on the 2012 Spencer release, there's no 2012 copyright year printing on his chassis.

    ย

I prefer the colour of the 2011 plus boxes. Standard box for Spencer, with a 'LIMITED PRODUCTION 1000' sleeve added on the right side of the box, looking at the box from the front. It's a shame Hornby did not release R9749 Spencer (Limited Production) in a new box, but I guess that would be too much work, also affecting the consumers' cost. Instead, Hornby printed 2,000 Limited Production sleeves; 1,000 of them for the boxes for R9749 Spencer (Limited Production) and 1,000 of them for boxes for R9750 Stepney (Limited Production).

  6. Correct. I wish the Sodor Mail Operating Coach was sold as individual boxed item however, as it would have saved me purchasing the 2011 released and original R9682 Percy & The Mail Train Set! Mind you, the Train Set did provide me with the 2011 copyright Hornby Percy model, an extra Red Oxide Vent Van and of course the main reason for the purchase, the Sodor Mail Operating Coach!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†

    ย

Also, I may sound like I am complaing about having to buy that Train Set, but I boiught it on Amazon.co.uk, back in 2012, for little over ยฃ40.00, in a Summer Sale. A brand new and boxed Train Set for that money and for what it contained was a vry good bargain, which Amazon.co.uk are good at providing every-so-often, so a trip to their website is not a bad thing!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†

  7. Hornby Thomas & Friends Train Set owners of the older sets who wanted the Hornby Thomas & Friends Track Extension Packs, surely would have them by now, as it's pointless and too costly too look now! Just buy the current generation Hornby Track Extension Packs or buy track sold invidually is the best bet, really.

    ย

Correct, Hornby did produce very little tooling for the Thomas & Friends and the majority of it were modified, or slightly modified, or un modified existing toolings, adding faces instead of snokebox doors and creating new paint colours and decals for the models. That's more or less it.

  8. But consumers who had a Thomas & Friends Train Set did not need to buy the Thomas & Friends Track Expansion Packs. I have had a think since my last post in this thread, as to why Hornby may have released them, may have been to add addtional profit from having the Thomas & Friends license at the time, without releasing a new locomotive, coach or wagon.

    ย

I could be wrong of course, but that's what I have come up with. I am sure the Hornby Thomas & Friends Track Expansion Packs costed more than the standard Hornby boxed range did as the time, so buying the standadrd range packs at the time would also save you money!

    ย

Packs A & F as you have told me were different, the others must have been the same then?

    ย

  9. Great post new lad on block, but these Hornby Thomas & Friends Extension Packs are really difficult to get hold of. They were discontinued in 2011 and the track is Hornby's standard track, inside a Thomas & Friends branded box; Meaning it's got nothing to do with the brand!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†

    ย

Standard range Extention Packs will do the job. I don't know Hornby ever released Thomas & Friends branded versions, but they didn't need to.

Great images. Seems like none of the R9098 Flying Scotsman models had white copyright year printing on the chassis. Some of the models do, other's don't.

    ย

Have you noticed that Hornby modified Gordon's face, to create Flying Scotsman's face?

  11. turkeylegs (I like your username actually!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†), welcome to the Hornby Forum.ย  ๐Ÿ˜€

    ย

It's shame that your Flying Scotsman Train Set is sold old that it does not match the current Track Extension Packs that you have bought do not fit together as the rear of the Train Set box states. It's not clear on the boxes, they are uselsss for older Train Sets, unless the owner wants to create their own layout with the track you they have.

    ย

Finding the original Track Extension Packs as advertised on the rear of your Flying Scotsman Train Box will be difficult but also expensive, so I advise that you come up with your own layout you have curently, with the track you have got; Like the others have said.

    ย

Addtional starights, curves, points, crossings, etc, areย available as seperately sold items, if you run out of a particular track item that you want.

I often have Diesel and Bear running at the same time not on the same line, but one on the inner circuit and the other on the outer. Both do similar work and both are non-major characters, so I think they are good together.

    ย

Diesel should be a Class 40, but I am unsure why Hornby released him as Class 37. Perhaps the the Class 40 did npt exist when Hornby released him, or was it to keep the costs down? I am sure a Class 37 model is cheaper than a Class 40 model.

Yes, the handrails on the tenders of each model are black, that's why I found it odd when R9257 Spencer was released in 2008, why the handrails were different colours. Spencer does have sliver handrails on his boiler in the TV series, but agaist that greyish / bluish paint livery on the Hornby R9257 model, they don't stand out and blend in too well. The advantage of the boiler handrails painted black on the 2012 R8749 Spencer (Limited Production) model they stand out well, even though they are not accurate to how Spencer looks in the TV series.

    ย

There's only a very slight colour difference between the two models, but I am glad to own one of each.

    ย

Both of my Spencer's share the coaches, as I only have one det of them. I don't need two sets of those coaches, as what's the point in having two Spencer's on the layout at the same time?!ย  ๐Ÿ˜†ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  ๐Ÿ˜€
