Alessio
Is Day 1's advent calendar really just the desktop wallpaper?! That's a bit of a let down...

choralc
Thanks for the reminder.I forgot about that ;-)I have also forgotten where to find it?PJThe Competitions page is still empty but on the Home Page near the top you will see the Advent Calendar and the wallpaper/desktop pic is indeed the 'prize'. Why have they dropped so many 'sizes'? My screen in 1920 x 1200 and 1080 chops the sides.

RB51
Well - it is a quick way to get to the calendar if nothing else. I'm not sure there were ever pedestrian crossings with a Belisha beacon on only one side and a gas lamp on the other. Could be wrong. Does make you feel a bit parky though! RB51
"My screen in 1920 x 1200 and 1080 chops the sides"Can you ask WIndows to make the desktop image "fill the screen"? On W8.1 it is possible. R-
RB51
What was helpful though Admin - was the note in red at the top of the screen that told you your screen dimensions. R-

Alessio
Sorry if my criticism seemed a little rude, Admin. I was in a bad mood because I hadn't eaten and was in a lecture! Not that it's an excuse. As constructive feedback, I much preferred last year's format with a loco or a set as a prize! But if Hornby have some new ideas, I'm totally up for hearing whatever they are :)
choralc
Don't worry about screen sizes. Those 5 downloads cover all the most used screen RATIOS (width / height). Just calculate your screen size ratio; download whichever of the 5 that matches; and set your desktop image to "fit". Ahhh, now that's a thought as scale to fit screen would keep all of the pic. I just need a ratio of 1.6:1 which is ...1280x800!Great suggestion, thank you

PJ_model_trains
Oh dearTodays advent Calendar, 3 December, has nothing to do with trains! Pushing sales in an Advent calendar!!! :-(PJ
RB51
Huummm - that does seem slightly odd. No doubt the reasoning will become clear. Is there a reason why the windows change their position within the grid? Does it add to the excitement I wonder (TinC)? R-
Gary_Leeds
Now if it was a chocolate machine in OO gauge I might be interested as most old platforms had at least one on them, but in 1:1 scale I'd rather have 6 quids worth of Cadbury bars instead. Admin, given the value of the items being "adventised" would it not be possible to have a draw to give one away as well as pushing the sales on them? It would seem a lot less like an advert then
Augustus Caesar
Typical of me that... missed the compo by a day! :-(I could wait for five years for a compo and then be told it is around on the day after it ended... and when I go to look, the prizes have already been dished out! Moral? Go and do something instead of hanging aorund for compo's!Advertising on an advent calendar? Short of money Hornby? Well I never... no more ads man.... boring. It's Christmas man, a time for GIVING, not selling... :-) So give us everything... yay... that would be good! :-)

walkingthedog
Poor old Hornby. Now your moaning about an advent calendar. It's supposed to be a bit of fun. It's only 3 days old. Give it a chance for heavens sake. I don't know why they bother.
Fazy
It seems to be a lot of ungrateful so and so's on here. Moaning about the prizes hornby are offering this year Which they don't have to by the way. Maybe we should be grateful that Hornby is starting to turn it round. I would be much happier to have Hornby around offering great models for years to come then a very slim chance of winning a locomotive for free.Christmas is about good will to all menkind. not what we can get for ourselves! VESPA
You will never win if you don't enter. I have in the past won a "Queen Maude" Princess Royal on here and in other comps, several hundred £s on the Premium Bonds,a ceramic piggy bank that led to a holiday in Amsterdam and £1000 prize,a bike, several bottles of Whisky, cinema tickets and a concert ticket to see Stephan Grappelli (Not my kind of music so gave them away) and a Teddy Bear. (possibly other things in Tombolas etc) All very nice prizes
