00 Gauge - Loco's and Rolling Stock

RDS

Recommended Posts

This new thread has been raised at the request of the Head of Brand - Hornby, with particular reference to new models that members would like to see added to the Hornby range. The same caveat will apply as to any other items in the wishlist section, regarding no guarantees or feedback but if enough interest in particular models is apparent, it will help Hornby with future decisions.

This thread has been made 'sticky' so that it stays at the top of the wishlist section. Members are welcome to repost any suggestion that has already been made to the wishlist section previously, into this thread if it is appropriate.

Please limit posts to just a description of the item required, including livery if appropriate and note that this thread is for 00 Gauge only.

In view of the crowed market place on the OO gauge over ground, how about making underground tube trains under the Oxford Trains brand or Bassett - Lowke brand

There are a number of different types, and are used over ground as well as underground.

In view of the crowed marketplace for OO gauge over ground how about making both olden styles and modern styles of motorised trams. As there are some major cities that run modern trams as well as the trams run in yesteryears in towns and cities like Blackpool

I think Hornby could introduce a whole new product range - model trams in either scale 00 or TT120.

Rather than the old fashioned highly detailed but difficult to mass produce trams go for the modern tram systems that most major cities have, both in UK and overseas.

Trams would make an ideal boxed tram-set starter kit, followed up by individual vehicle sets which will run on existing track systems, along with the accessory side of the product like modern buildings, tram stops, etc.

On refection one area Hornby needs to update it is track, there have been a number of requests for single and double slip points three way points curved points with 3rd and 4th radius curves, a fill in straight for the express points plus other requests.

Maybe Hornby could offer Concrete as well as wooden sleeper track, as the track is used in both UK OO gauge and Continental HO gauge ranges.

Hi 96RAF

Corgi still make 3 diecast trams, A Feltham, a Blackpool Balloon and Blackpool single deck Railcar, all they would need to do is get the clever folks in the train section to design a HO/OO gauge motorised chassis that would fit both the Tram's bodies and track, one new product range.

Having looked on ebay and saw the types Corgi use to make, if they still have the moulds then a number of types could be made and be motorised with the possibility of a working power collector as an option,

I think most if not all the other Corgi trams were to a larger scale than 1:76. My Dover Corporation covered top D (full Dxxk not acceptable!!) Kerr tram is around 15mm taller than a 1:76 model of a 14'6" high double deck bus but I do not have its box to hand. 1:72 perhaps?

I would like to suggest that Hornby’s next era 1 locomotive should be Matthew Murray’s Salamanca.

Built in 1812 (17 years before Stephenson’s Rocket), the Salamanca was named after Wellington’s victory at the Battle of Salamanca.

It appears in a watercolour by George Walker (1781–1856), the first painting of a steam locomotive.

A model of the locomotive, built by Murray in 1811, is part of the collection held at Leeds Industrial Museum. It is the world's oldest model locomotive.

See https://westleedsdispatch.com/worlds-oldest-model-locomotive-is-on-track-in-armley-museum/

for a picture.

I know that there were many versions of ‘Flying Scotsman’ produced for the centenary year but I was hoping that Hornby would produce the 1961-1963 version when last under BR ownership

Hornby last produced a pristine version (R078) in 1993, but this was before DCC and I do not want a weathered version (R3202). The new Duplo R30211 Era 11 is close to the model I want but has a corridor tender.

Considering the amount of train formations using more than one diesel locomotives,- like railhead treatment trains, East Anglian ‘short set’ on the Wherry Lines, etc,- I’m surprised that non-powered versions of classes 20, 37, 47, 66 in various liveries with working direction lights have not been produced in Railroad.

It's been suggested before elsewhere in this section of the forum, but I would suggest the LNER E4 2-4-0 tender loco. The tender is, as far as I know, the same as the J15, and there could be other common parts as well (cab?). Liveries include the beautiful Great Eastern lined blue, LNER black (not sure if they were ever lined) and BR black. A perfect loco for pulling the Hornby Gresley suburban coaches, and maybe the generic 4 and 6 wheel coaches in GER brown. Hornby have done several excellent Great Eastern locos over the past few years and this would be a nice addition to the range.

Further to Shaun-365011's final post, I recall requesting a while back a Hornby-Dublo version of the class 52 Western, including a D1000 'Western Enterprise'. However, please give the option of small yellow end panels.

And if you want a totally off the wall suggestion, how about producing a model of the pre-WW1 LBSCR overhead electric MU stock?

At the risk of appearing to miss the point of this thread but in all seriousness, please can we have more consistent quality control? For example, some recent models have not had very good motors despite all the attention given to the appearance and detail of the models. Hopefully we are however past the various sporadic mazak problems that occurred between about 2005 and 2010 (and not just with a few Hornby models but with other manufacturers as well).

6 years to go before the 200th Anniversary of the Rainhill Trials

1829 = 2029.

The locomotives. Novelty, Perseverance, San Pariel and of course, Cycloped.

Details in this thread:

Special note that R60164 are the carriages used at the Rainhill Trials.

Hornby Head of Brand must be aware of the enduring market power of Rocket. Hornby Head of Brand should also be aware of the continued call for LMR carriages and locomotives.

Hornby would be well advised to stop looking at 1980's artwork. Those stamps are inspirational but do NOT match contemporary period artwork. Period artwork exists in abundance.

Hornby Head of Brand should not confuse the demand for proper Era 1 kit; with the poor sales performance of Era 1 rolling stock, rolling stock based upon 1980's stamps.
