What is everyone doing this weekend with their model railways?

Last week I put 5 pairs of platform station lights on one of my island platforms. All doubles.

This weekend I am wiring in 4 single lamps to the station at the other side of the rails.

I am also preparing some station seats from a Metcalfe kit

I have looked on the internet for station name signs, not the print outs but the uprights and board to put the station name on.  If I can't get them I think I might make them. Has anyone see any of these for sale?

Dapol do a platform accessories kit  (C013 - see picture) that has lights (that I have converted to yellow 5mm leds), fencing, seats and also station platform boards on stands. They may not be quite what you want but you could use the idea to scratch build some.

I know its not the weekend yet but I've just converted one end of my Hitachi Class 395 Blue Rapier to make it DCC ready, fittted an R8249 decoder, done a bit of livery improvement (top rail stripes and personal running number) and fittted an additional Cyclops hi-level led (doesn't show up very well in the photo but its just piggy-backed on the existing one and bent to fit behind the lens)

The other end and the middle is still in UK so thats a job for another weekend.

Sorry the picture is a tad out of focus - must retire that old camera and get a new one - Note to self job for the weekend.

Saturday 21st going to Risex model rail exhib at Princes Risborough, Bucks. Need to get some ideas and possibly advice on how to build a 2M x 1M folding baseboard that hinges back to the wall. Some portable layouts have special hinges to achieve this.

What you need to work out is how much clearance you need to 'hinge in' for stuff that will be above track height, e.g buildings, bridges, scenery, etc or if you will remove everything down to track level for foldup.

One this height is known you can mount a batten on the wall as thick as this height with normal hinges to give you the stand off.

Or you can buy special offset hinges that effectively build in this height for you. A bit like a car bonnet hinge moves the bonnet away from the car body as it opens. Have a look on line for specialist hinge manufacturers or visit Screwfix and talk to their counter man.

Hi

in case the link was missed can I say thank you to all the input when building my GWR Railmotor which is on YouTube

Land of all the engines I have rebuilt from the Hornby A3 IT is my best so far and runs so well on my small layout that I will be running it most of the weekend.

thanks

Hi RAF

Many thanks for your help, I have walls and already made seats so it is not what I wanted pity.

I think it will be scratch built. All I need is two posts and a board for the platform station name, I am printing the names now and checking to get the right sizes, then I will make the boards to suit.

Thank you for your suggestion, you certainly found more than me  ;o)  Not hard!!!

Continuing my 'Honey do' list, the end of which is the holy grail of layout building............. Is there ever an end to a honey do list?

The list is endless. You might think you've got to the end, but what you think doesn't matter. SWMBO will already have an additional list and when you've cleared that she'll start again !!!

Have 'programmed' two R8216 Point Decoders with RailMaster and will install R8243 surface motors to my 'learning' layout. I call it my learning layout as this is the one I practise on so that when I build my semi-portable one I should make fewer mistakes! :)

Will you put up a picture of your new camera, RAF?

That will be a challenge then. May have to buy a mirror.

That's one answer. Another is to use the old camera to photograph the new one.  Either solution will be too technical for Graskie !!

I keep telling you, PP, that I'm not as daft as I look. The old camera would probably not take as good a picture as the new camera taking a picture of itself in a mirror, as RAF says, except that it would be the wrong way round and need to be flipped. I always thought you were supposed to be pretty good "in camera" (sorry if you didn't do Latin). [;-)]

I don't know about the weekend but I had to abandon my railway a few hours ago because a certain man's law seemed to have set in with everything I tried to do. First, I couldn't access the powerpos link to update to the latest RM version. Then my layout shorted for some reason which I just couldn't for the life of me understand. I eventually had to switch off everything to clear it. Nothing ran particularly well in the end anyway, so I just gave up in disgust. Why does that happen sometimes? I really wanted to press on but couldn't. Ah well, there is the weekend, I suppose.

I shall make another attempt at getting Class 56 R2235E to run on the track and maybe redesign the first attempt at a motor bogie pickup I fitted to the non-existant gearbox side. It runs fine on the rolling road where there is no friction.

Why design a loco with only 'three legs' for goodness sake - and its got rubber tyres all on the same side. At least the TTS Class 37 has its rubber tyres staggered across the bogie.

I have some Neo magnets coming to try to kick some life into the old 3-pole ringfield motor but I hope they don't fry the armature as has been reported on some forums.
